Patience is fruit of the Holy Sprit.  The Bible also tells us that God Himself is patient with us.  God would not need patience if He wasn’t choosing to wait on certain things.  As God’s people, we are called to walk in patience because we too have to wait on certain things at certain times. Trusting God requires us to wait on God. While it may be difficult, waiting on the Lord isn’t a passive activity.  There are things that we can do as we are waiting on God.  This message deals with how to trust God when you are in a waiting season.

Trust and obedience are companions in scripture. Trust initiates and motivates obedience.  Obedience expresses, affirms, and confirms trust.  We obey because we trust and because we trust we obey.  Trust fuels obedience and obedience strengthens our trust.  Failing to obey God demonstrates a lack of trust on our part.  In this teaching we look at an Old Testament King who missed out on the promises of God because he simply didn’t trust and obey God.

After the birth of Jesus, the Gospel of Luke mentions two people who bear witness to Him in the Temple: Simeon and Anna.  Both Simeon and Anna  lived a large part of their lives waiting on the Consolation of Israel. Anna actually spent decades fasting and praying in the Temple looking for redemption in Jerusalem.  Simeon and Anna are worthy of our examination because their stories teach us some life lessons about how to wait on God.  Listen to this message and learn about four things that you can give yourself to while you are in a season of waiting on God.

The gospel of Luke tells us that both Zacharias and Mary received a message from an angel named Gabriel.  If you look carefully,  both Zacharias and Mary got the same message.  Not only did they get the same message but they also both responded the same way.  Both Zacharias and Mary responded in doubt and disbelief. When Zacharias responds in doubt, Gabriel silences him for nine months for not believing God.  When Mary responds in doubt, Gabriel comforts her and encourages her. It doesn’t seem fair that Mary gets a pass but Zacharias is silenced. Could there be some possible theological ideas about why Mary is comforted and Zacharias is chastised? After the birth of Christ, God decides to send angels to make an announcement about the birth of His Son and our Savior.  What’s interesting about this birth announcement is that we need to take note of to whom the angels speak.  When Christ is born and God decides to give the announcement about His Son, notice that the Lord decides that the only people who will get the announcement are some shepherds in a field.  The fact that God makes the announcement to shepherds has much to say to us as God’s people. The announcement is given to the shepherds but the angels proclaim that it is good news for all people.  Listen to the good news of this announcement and be reminded of why we celebrate the birth of Christ.
