  • Catch-Up 2021 pt. 1 | The BIGGEST Dance Club Songs of the year so far!
Just in time for your 4th of July holiday parties, Party Favorz is dropping not only one of the most anticipated sets of the year but the only party soundtrack you'll need for the rest of summer.

That's not to say that some mid or late-July releases won't explode that haven't been introduced to the world yet because they always do and most certainly will. However, Catch-Up 2021 gives you the biggest dance club songs of the year that are still riding high on most people's Spotify playlists as well as newcomers that Party Favorz has handpicked to click with house music fans.

As usual, we throw in some bootlegs and mashups to keep the party interesting and you won't find anywhere else but everything required for your summer recovery is included in these two sets.

Did I say two sets? The musical landscape was so plentiful and diverse that it grew to an unmanageable size requiring us to split this year's entry into two volumes, which are 3+ hours of summer fun spread across both sets. There's a lot to unpack here but after previewing these sets over the past week — we can honestly say that we nailed it!

We'll be back tomorrow morning with part 2 of the 2021 Catch-Up. Until then...ENJOY!

  • Pride T-Dance Edition 2021 | Celebrating 14 Years of GAY PRIDE! | Expanded
After road-testing the latest T-Dance set for Pride, we thought we'd get ahead of the curve and do a late-week drop before the weekend.

Pride T-Dance Edition 2021 is part of the Party Favorz re-entry into T-Dance, which was a staple in the early years of this podcast. This special Pride edition is chock-full of updated gay anthem classics as well as current House Music tracks that are perfect for Sunday afternoon reveling or frankly, anytime you want something a little less hard-hitting than our traditional circuit and anthems sets.

Dropping this now will allow for the creation of Gay Anthems For a New Generation 2021 with a (hopeful) release by this upcoming Sunday but don't hold us to that. If we can clear the slate — it will buy us some time to start the Apple Music transfer that was discussed in the Gay Pride Edition 2021 last week and is going to be a long tedious process.

Additionally, we were informed that the issues surrounding our app had been resolved but they still persist. So, that's going to require additional testing, which in turn necessitates more free time.

Ultimately, an earlier release of these sets allows folks already celebrating Pride before the official U.S. date and the international Pride Day a week later to get into the spirit as these events take place.

This is another whopper of a set and we didn't hold back. There's more than enough here to fill up your little queer hearts. Until the next time...ENJOY!

I want to give a special shoutout to Dirk S. ($50) and Michael H. ($100) for their unexpected yet very generous donations! You guys are much appreciated!!!

  • Pride Edition 2021 | Celebrating 14 Years of GAY PRIDE!
It's been one hell of a year but we're finally beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel due to this long national nightmare. Party Favorz has been here through it all delivering the finest in club music to help you maintain a sense of normalcy. With most major artists holding back remixes and out-of-work DJs transitioning to fee for remixes — it's been tricky if not expensive delivering the goods month after month but somehow, we managed.

Pride Edition 2021 is the most expensive set ever put together clocking in at over $150. We do it to support the DJs and the work they usually give away for free to support their live shows. Out of all these DJs there is one who deserves our biggest gratitude. That DJ is Brazil's Dario Xavier who has been a virtual remix factory of all the latest hits and gay anthems. Like India, Brazil has been one of the hardest hit countries by COVID-19 and the work he puts into his remixes that make up a healthy portion of this set is phenomenal. If you enjoy his remixes — please support his work at https://darioxavier1.bandcamp.com/ There you'll find everything in this set and a whole lot more.
    Climbing on my soapbox
I want to call attention to what's going on in the United States at the state level. Many states like my home state of GA have passed Jim Crow-style style laws that are designed to suppress the vote. Not just the votes of Black and Brown people but young people (think college-age) and persons with disabilities. These groups typically vote democratic and these laws have been written in such a manner that they surgically carve out policies to make it more difficult for these groups to vote.

While many people are up in arms about not being able to hand out food and water for voters waiting in long lines to exercise their Constitutional right (typically in areas that are heavily populated by — you guessed it — Black and Brown voters because Republicans in those states have shut down the majority of polling stations, there is so much more to these new laws that are going unnoticed.

Issues like this are a red herring designed to distract from the true anti-democratic parts of these bills. Indeed, the one thing they all have in common is that they give the state legislatures or some appointed body by the legislature to remove the head of elections and the entire election board in heavily democratic counties and appoint their people giving them the right to overturn the will of the people in those counties for virtually any semblance of fraud, which has been proven in the last election to not only be rare but by the hands of Republicans. You literally can't make this shit up.

By doing this, and the heavy Gerrymandering that's about to take place throughout these states after the last census, Republicans are all but assuring themselves total control of government at the state and federal levels. In other words, minority rule. Instead of developing policies that appeal to a broad base of Americans, the only way for them to win is by rigging the system in their favor to maintain complete control of all levers of government.

So what does this have to do with Gay Pride? Currently, these same states are targeting our brothers and sisters in the transgender community with laws that ban them from sports and/or public bathrooms of their choice. They've already enacted stringent "heartbeat" bills in hopes that the rigged SCOTUS will overturn Roe v. Wade, which could very well happen.

  • Ready For This | T.G.I.F. Disco House Party
Party Favorz is back and ready to kick off your Memorial Day weekend with a Disco House party! This set is perfect for your pool parties, picnics, and barbeques with friends, family, or any strangers that stumble into your weekend fun.

While there's plenty of Disco in this set, we're also witnessing a re-emergence of the more classic vocal house from the early millennium and a heavy reliance on housed-up versions of early 70s soul music. It's this blending of styles from various decades that's fueling the Disco House craze that's taking over the world.

As more people get vaccinated and we begin to slide out of what was likely the direst year of our lives — Disco is just the right genre we need to leave our worries behind and live a carefree life if only for a fleeting moment.

I'm truly psyched about where this is all heading and have mapped out your summer of music for you.

First, the latest Circuit & Anthems set has been pushed back a week (don't hate on me). This will be our annual circuit Pride Edition and while I have more than enough to fill up the set — I'm waiting on some last-minute drops from some of our favorite DJs. I've decided to refresh the original Gay Anthems series and create the Ultimate Gay Anthems or Pride Classics (I haven't decided on the naming just yet) but just know it's gonna be EPIC! My Gay Anthems For a New Generation folder is filling up fast so I'm ecstatic about that. I also plan on releasing a Gay Pride Tea Dance set later in the month because circuit music isn't everyone's cup of tea and why not have some happy house featuring some of the latest hits and disco classics — then I'll drop the annual Catch-Up featuring the biggest dance club songs of the year so far at the end of the month and just in time for your 4th of July celebrations.

I've also started compiling volume 4 of Thank God It's Disco featuring disco classics re-worked for today's dance floors and have that scheduled for July. Of course, we have our annual Beach House, Summer Heat, and Summer Edition dropping in July as well.

Meanwhile, August is going to bring us the much-delayed Ultimate Madonna Collection that got pushed back last year due to unforeseen circumstances.

As you can see, I've got an ambitious agenda scheduled to keep everyone moving and grooving through the summer months. I hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.

    Until the next time...ENJOY!

  • Summer Leap 2021 | Get a Head Start on Future Summer Hits! | Fixed
Welcome to the 2021 edition of Summer Leap where Party Favorz anticipates some of the biggest dance club hits heading into the hotter months. It's the time for pool parties, the beach and a break from all of life's issues. This summer is a bigger deal only because many parts of the world are coming out of lockdown with more people getting vaccinated making it safer to go out and be amongst friends and (strangers).

Sadly, dance music has a bit static with much of the commercial releases sounding the same and lacking in originality. That's not to say there aren't several great gems hidden amongst this 62 song set because there are plenty. This isn't anything new and I bitched about the same thing in 2015 when all the rave was "Deep House," which has gone back to its roots and turned into "Future House," which is now more like "Electro House" and is now just labeled Dance. The labels may change but the originality has stayed flat.

Some of the better tunes (especially on the excellent Spring Break 2021), rely on past treasures by sampling the past while creating all new songs for the current generation of party-goers. There's not quite as much lately and that has to do with folks losing inspiration or holding back their work until everything fully opens up. There is one great remix by Purple Disco Machine that's about to drop on the 28th for a new song that's just okay but the remix takes it to another level. I'm expecting this song to explode this summer. I wont' say what it is but it will make an appearance on the 2021 Gay Anthems For a New Generation and the annual Catch-Up towards the end of June.

Much of what's contained in Disco House and Peak Hour is beginning to bleed into commercial dance, which is fine. It needs the shakeup but don't worry — that's not going to effect those series. Ultimately, diversity is key to making a great mix but I'm only as good as the musical output at any given moment.

I do want to mention that the app I was so proud of which had been working flawlessly through the spring is no longer working. It relies on the Microsoft scripts and there are several issues with it at the moment that are not getting addressed in their forums on Github. Ultimately, I'll have to school myself on hosting it myself for better reliability but since I'm self-taught, that could take awhile. I'll let everyone know once something is reliably in place.

We still have a brand new Disco House and Circuit & Anthems releases scheduled for the coming week so be sure to subscribe or follow for the latest updates. Until then...ENJOY!

Kicking off a marathon of sets is our latest Peak Hour mix "Don't' Stop the Music," which is loaded to the hilt with the latest Tech House and a smattering of Break Beat. Sorry, no Bass or Electro House this go around.

Once June rolls around — expect "The Ultimate Gay Anthems" series to drop as a massive refresher to earlier releases. This is going to be EPIC! • The Ultimate 90’s House Classics [1996 – 1997] vol. 4
It's always a sigh of relief when I finish one of these epic anthologies and I'm happy with the final product. Volume four of the Ultimate 90's House Classics showcases the splintering of the genre and how more progressive versions of House Music were suddenly taking over dance floors.

Club 69 (a.k.a. Peter Rauhofer) who was generally a sexy house music production geared toward gay audiences, changed musical directions quite rapidly. Eventually, the productions became more progressive and frenetic, which would drive peak hour crowds into a tizzy. Club 69 hit it big with remixes for Funky Green Dogs "Fired Up" and Kevin Aviance "Din Da Da" amongst many others during this period.

At the same time, Tony Moran, Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Ralphi Rosario and Hex Hector were beefing up their sound while making it more palatable to a mainstream audience giving the genre and even further reach.  This is not to say the House Music in its purest form wasn't still king as evidenced by the multitude of #1 club songs included in this final set. But, this new sound was embarking on something much bigger that would eventually takeover not only the charts but dance floors in the coming years.

Everyone found their place or shall I say true calling as a DJ and no longer were these guys just a DJ, two turntables and a microphone (thank you Beck). They were stars in their own right that could pack a venue. Perhaps the biggest contributor to their stardom was none other than Clive Davis of Arista records. He saw not just in terms of financial but the need to expand his diva roster's reach into the world of dance and by extension their popularity. After all, where would Deborah Cox be today if it weren't for him pushing her in both angles of R&B and Dance extending her visibility across boundaries.

While Party Favorz enjoys all the various genres and tribute sets I put out from Trash Disco, 80's Dance, Eurodance and Trance — I have the most affinity with House Music and its various iterations. The Ultimate 90's House Classics series is dear to my heart. While this series is far from the last word on House Music (as there's just way too much to be included even if the artists and songs deserve it) — it's likely the closest you'll ever find in a comprehensive history of the genre.

We still have two more years to go with 1998 - 1999, which are bound to bring back some fond memories for many of you. I'm not certain as to when I'll be dropping those but likely sometime in the summer or no later than early fall. I still have the Ultimate Trance series I've been teasing that I want to get out by the end of the year as well. Until then...ENJOY!

  • The Ultimate 90’s House Classics [1996 – 1997] vol. 3
For those of you unable to appreciate the very music that spawned what you listen to today — songs that are reworked for today's dancefloor, by DJs that have perfected their artistry and are still churning out hit dance songs as I type this — bare with me while I indulge the folks who lived it and know exactly where this music stems from.

We've got one more volume to complete this series before launching into the latest Dance Club, Circuit and Anthems, Disco House, and Peak Hour — all guaranteed to drop between now and Memorial Day. Afterward, we have Gay Pride month and I've got a lot in store for June, which will be capped off with our annual Catch-up series featuring the biggest Dance Club tracks of 2021 so far.

Party Favorz isn't just about what's going on in the world of dance music today but about remembering our roots. I've been wholly vested in musical history since I was a kid so every release on this platform has special significance for me and the countless followers of this podcast. Anyone that's followed Party Favorz for a long time knows that I get to everything in my own time and space so as not to oversaturate any single area. Our focus is on the evolution of House music from the past to the present. Stick around and you may learn something.

In the interim — I busted my ass getting volume three of the Ultimate 90's House Classics [1996- 1997] out promptly. The music contained within this set is historical and deserves the time, space, and attention afforded to it.

I'll be back next week with the final installment and something new to get y'all geared up for summer. Until then...ENJOY!

  • The Ultimate 90’s House Classics [1996 – 1997] vol. 2
Earlier in the decade, Freestyle, Breakbeat, Trip Hop, Hip Hop and Eurodance were all offshoots of House music that went on to be fused together or evolved into their own distinct categories.

More notably, the second half of the nineties witnessed a sea change in House music. While Classic House continued to be a staple on dance floors — the sound became more progressive, electronic and tribal as club culture began looking for something fresh and new. Enter Club 69 (Peter Rauhofer), Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, Tony Moran, Hex Hector, Jonathan Peters, Soul Solution, Rosabel (Ralphi Rosario), Razor N' Guido, Vission & Lorimer and a host of others. The one consistent in this area was Junior Vasquez who easily switched between edgy commercial House and the big tribal beats that would eventually claim the dance floor.

In fact, it took the Soul Hex remix (Soul Solution + Hex Hector) of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" for the labels to take notice after it exploded all over the dance floor. For the sake of this series — the excellent Frankie Knuckles version was included on volume one of this series.

That being said, this new style of music steadily became more dominant that it begins to take over this four volume series and explodes by 1998 - 1999.

Other notable mentions in this period are Full Intention, StoneBridge and Love To Infinity who developed a tougher house sound that was commercially appealing and Armand Van Helden with his signature garage house style that sometimes veered into other worlds.

The other offshoot that exploded was Trance. Trance had been bubbling in the underground with rave parties that were popular in the UK in the early nineties and eventually found their way over to the US. That's an entirely separate category and will be prominently featured in its own tribute later this year. Just know that many of the big names in Trance started out as house DJs. Rollo & Sister Bliss, Perfecto, Sash! and BT were all making house music prior to jumping over to this genre where they found massive success.

After finishing volume two — I've decided to re-visit some of the earlier Legacy entries like Frankie Knuckles, Peter Rauhofer, Thunderpuss and Hex Hector. The original sets feel incomplete and can certainly be improved upon. I'd also like to incorporate more Club 69 remixes into Peter's tribute set since the moniker was key to his overall success. Those are being considered for a much future date as I got a lot on my plate at the moment.

In the interim, soak in this heavenly slice of House music history and be sure to turn it the fuck UP! I should have volume three out on Saturday or Sunday and the final fourth volume for this period sometime next week. Until then...ENJOY!
