  • Christina Aguilera | The Diva Series
This week I’ll be posting three brand-spanking-new sets of the Diva Series before giving that edition a rest for a couple of months.
To kick things off, the one and only Christina Aguilera is being re-inducted to the Diva Hall of Fame and by all accounts, she fits the true definition LOL. The attitude, the voice, the looks were all on full display during her three-year run as a coach on The Voice. You can credit that stent on the show for putting her back into the spotlight (something she desperately needed)

Since the release of Bionic and it’s subsequent pan by critics (whether justified or not …me think not) and a star turn in the mega-flop Burlesque (alongside three-time Diva Hall of Fame inductee Cher), her star power started to rapidly fade. Coupling that with some seriously added poundage, led folks to believe she just wasn't all that into it anymore, or worse experiencing serious depression.

Her follow-up album Lotus didn't fare much better and despite a loyal following, people began to scratch their heads and wonder what the hell was going on? Fortunately, high-profile collaborations with Maroon 5 and Pitbull have kept her on the charts not to mention a return to The Voice this fall should maintain that momentum.

Far be it for me to make any suggestions towards her music career but I’m gonna anyway.  If she wants to be relevant, she will have to adapt to the current scene at radio. I’d suggest working with William Orbit, Benny Benassi or Calvin Harris (actually all of them) on her next project. She can still be Christina but these producers know their shit and could easily shape a new sound and image for Miss X. Take it for what it’s worth, but putting out another dated formulaic album will be the final nail in her coffin.
WOW! I didn’t mean for this induction to come off so harsh. So that being said, Party Favorz honors the woman, the voice, the TRUE DIVA and all that she has contributed to our lives. Without further ado, please welcome Xtina a.k.a. Christina Aguilera! XOXOXO

  • Peter Rauhofer Tribute Volume 2
Having exhausted my days off from work, I have finally finished part 2 in celebration of the memory and legacy of Peter Rauhofer.
I received positive feedback on part 1 and all I’m gonna say about this one is EPIC!

The songs spread out over these two sets don’t even come close to Peter’s output but should rather be a reminder of the outstanding legacy he leaves behind. For that reason alone, it’s very well worth your time to travel down this road to fondly remember these songs and what they have meant to you at any point in your life when these beats were pounding out of the sound system on any given dance floor.

I just renewed my domain for Party Favorz in hopes of carrying forward my podcasting passion. At the moment, I’m ass-broke and will have to downgrade my Podomatic account to a basic free one for the next 30 days. I’m certain they’ll work with me but I’m not sure how that will affect everyone’s ability to stream and download.

Regardless, I had already mentioned that I need a break and plan on taking the rest of May off from the site. I have three additional Diva Series set to go (Rihanna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera) but those will go on the back burner for a later date in the summer.

That’s all I got for now. Until Pride …ENJOY!

  • Peter Rauhofer Tribute pt. 1
With Peter’s recent passing, I could think of no better way to honor him than to showcase his legacy.  You may ask yourself “why The Diva Series?” Frankly, With his much-publicized feud with Offer Nissim (he was right) to his falling out with the organizers of the White Party (he was wrong), the one thing I know with all certainty is that HE WAS THE ULTIMATE DIVA!

Nevertheless, I’m not here to pass judgment because, like most people that reach the upper echelons of their profession, they will always have their detractors.  Talk to the hand honey, 'cause the head ain’t listening.

    https://youtu.be/e4TNQxcpAVs

The catalog of artists he’s either produced or remixed is mind-boggling. Madonna, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Cher, Donna Summer, Loleatta Holloway, Suzanne Palmer, and on and on; the list reads like a who’s who of divas to hit the gay dance floors around the globe.

The man is a legend and leaves behind a body of work that will continue to be emulated 30 years from now. Peter said it best himself in song #10 of this set: “This is the REAL THING BITCH!” Instead of sadness and sorrow, Party Favorz celebrates the legacy of Peter Rauhofer and welcomes him to the Diva Hall of Fame Legacy Series. RIP my friend, it’s been a long journey.

  • Jennifer Lopez | The Diva Series 2013
By 2005, Jennifer’s star began to fade with a series of albums that failed to get much Top 40 traction (though generating #1 dance hits) a marriage to Mark Anthony and twins about to hit the shelves, Jenn was not getting the kind of attention she had previously enjoyed (barring the twins she had been carrying).

After parting ways with Epic Records, her label since the start of her music career, she signed with Island. She accepted the role as a judge on American Idol, which was said to be worth $20 million, and staged a comeback, and boy did she.

Still owing Epic one more album, her three #1 singles On the Floor, I’m Into You and Dance Again were all included on the greatest hits package released by Epic to fulfill her contract.

With the release of a couple more perfumes, a reality series similar to Idol produced for Univision and her first-ever Dance Again world tour coupled with starring turns in various movies, Jennifer’s star is back in alignment and shining brighter than ever. Party Favorz welcomes Jennifer a.k.a. J-Lo back as a two-time inductee into the Diva Hall of Fame where no doubt she will reign for years to come.

  • Top Dance Songs of 2012 Vol. 4
For future reference, when I say I’m going to post something on a specific date, take it with a grain of salt LOL. The intent is always there but something always comes up or happens that prevents me from meeting my self-imposed deadline. I guess better late than never, right?

Rounding out this series in the Top Dance Song of the Year 2012 is the rest of the best. Kicking it off with his global hit (thanks to YouTube) PSY cranks it up with “Gangnam Style.”
You know what? It was a long night, I’m tired and a bit cranky and just want to zone out for the rest of this miserable, cold, and wet day LOL. So I’ll just let this final set speak for itself.

I’ll be taking a breather from the site (sort of) for a few weeks as I work on a new re-design and possibly some past re-posts that I’ve been getting a lot of calls for. Whatever I decide to do on that front will be announced here so stay tuned.

I hope everyone is geared up for a new year. I can’t say I’m optimistic but certainly not pessimistic; maybe indifferent is a better word. I need to take a breather for a while and will be back soon enough.

    Until then…ENJOY and HAPPY 2013!

  • Top Dance Songs of 2012 Vol. 3
An interesting takeaway from 2012 is just how prevalent and frankly easy it has become for DJs to take it out of the bedroom and bring their work to the masses.  Seemingly, people are making a name for themselves overnight. Liam Keegan and now Cosmic Dawn come to mind (though there are plenty of others like Reidiculous and Funk3d).  If you’re looking into getting into the business check out How Hard Is DJing? Count To Four at Forbes. You might be surprised.

You will find that I used several Cosmic Dawn productions throughout this series more than any other. Much like Liam, he consistently delivers a meat-and-potatoes approach to his productions that cut out all the fancy blips and bleeps that others think are so cool but does nothing more than to distract the listener. I’d say the next step for this guy from the Netherlands is to start touring because that’s clearly where the money is. Hell, even an asshole like Deadmau5 is making millions by touring and has yet to deliver a worthy track or album that doesn’t copy everyone else. This leads me to my next reflection…

Wanna know what the top DJs are making from touring? Check out Electronic Cash Kings: The World’s Highest Paid DJs. It’s no surprise to find Tiesto at the top of the heap raking in $22 million last year but some of the others may very well surprise you. Frankly, if a piece of human debris like Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 can rake in 11.5 million then pretty much anyone can do it. Okay, not necessarily and if I’m being harsh on the guy, it’s only because of his appreciation, or lack thereof his good fortune despite not having any remarkable skills as a producer.  While you’re at it, you might want to check out Tiesto On World Aids Day, Retiring From DJ'ing And Learning To Trust His 'Gut'. After touring relentlessly for the past 20 years and producing some of the most iconic dancefloor grooves, Tiesto is finally hanging up his hat.

Without a doubt, the other big winner of 2012 is Beatport. Starting in 2004 in Colorado, they have grown to be the single most influential EDM store for aspiring DJs and producers with a catalog of over 1,000,000 titles and over 8,000 independent labels and branches all over the United States, Berlin, and Japan.  Their global outreach has made them the most successful and relevant “online source for music” outside of iTunes. No doubt the big labels have taken notice and tried to muscle their way in, but Beatport marches to its own drumbeat and doesn’t take orders from the major corporate entities. If Sony/BMG, Universal, EMI, or Warner want to play, they play on Beatport’s terms. Realizing there is money to be had, the labels have taken a different approach to market certain talent like Zedd through independent channels and frankly, it’s starting to pay off. Thank you, Beatport for standing your ground and providing the world with a whole new way to discover artists that may have never been heard from.

As such, some of you may be scratching your heads over the inclusion of certain artists and songs in this Top Dance Songs of the Year series. It’s very simple; several of the songs included were massive Beatport songs and popular on alternative dance floors across the globe as well as on BPM radio here in the US. No doubt, you’ll be hearing more of these in my sets in the new year even though the artists don’t belong to any major label.

Finally, here is the third installment of the ToP Dance Songs of the Year 2012. I realize I’m a little behind schedule but I’ll do my best to get the final one out tomorrow before the stroke of midnight. Until then…ENJOY!
