This is the day that Satyavan must die. Savitri goes with him into the forest, knowing that Death may come at any minute. She waits for Almighty Death to come to take her husband, waiting for the moment when she will begin the mighty work for which she was born. As Satyavan chops a tree branch, his doom comes upon him. Savitri holds him as life leaves his body. Then she grows aware that they are no longer alone. She knows that visible Death is standing there, and Satyavan has passed from her embrace.

As Savitri sits besides her beloved sleeping husband, with the dark night outside and the vast silence inside her, all suddenly begins to change, inside and outside. The world of unreality that she was living in ceased to be. All became a living reality, a stupendous Truth. It was herself and the self of all. It was the consciousness of all that lives. She was a single being, yet she was all things. She was no more herself, but all the world. Infinity was her movement’s natural space. Eternity looked out from her on Time. Savitri has attained Cosmic Consciousness. When Almighty Death takes her husband, she is ready to conquer him and bring her husband back to life.

Savitri is living in the deep forest in the state of Nirvana, but nobody around her thinks she has changed. To all she was the same perfect Savitri. She spoke the words she was wont to speak and did the things she always did before. But inside her complete emptiness a vacant consciousness watched everything. There was no will behind her words and acts, no thoughts formed in her brain to guide her speech. Yet, in her emptiness she was aware of a high, hidden voiceless Truth; something unknown, inscrutable, that sent down messages of its light and used her speech to speak wise and immortal words. Her being now surpassed all Cosmic bounds.

When Savitri’s mind becomes silent and empty, a blank, pure consciousness replaces her mind. Her body continues to do everything that it always did without the aid of thought. The world seemed to be made of empty forms, materialized shadows without true substance. Life was an unreal dream. She was no longer a person in a world She had escaped into Infinity. It brought her an everlasting Peace.

Savitri sees how all the thoughts in her outer mind are made in her body by Nature’s earth-force, and how formed universal thoughts enter her mind from outside. She rises high above her mind to stand free from Nature. Finally even the highest spiritual thoughts, which have an automatic right to enter the mind can enter no longer. Then all grows still; nothing moves any more.

Savitri sits in meditation to quiet her mind. She looks at her thoughts and finds out where they come from. She sees the thoughts that come from her body, and the thoughts that come from her subtle body. Then she sees the thoughts that come into her through her subtle body from the universal mental planes. The unseen grows visible and audible. Her sight opens upon the invisible and she senses the shapes that mortal eyes do not see, and the sounds that mortal ears do not hear, and the touch of the intangible that the sense of mortal touch does not feel.

The great Voice from the heights comes down to tell Savitri that she has to do more yoga to prepare herself to conquer Almighty Death. She has to fulfill her Divine destiny. To save the world she must be one with the world and bear the grief and joy of all that lives. She must consent to be nothing and none so that all in her may reach its absolute. She must cast off her mind and step back from form and name.

Savitri’s life is fulfilled; she has found herself and she knows her being’s aim. She is sure her beloved husband will not die. She sees that hey will have a long life of love together; body to body near, soul near to soul. But Savitri will have to do more yoga to prepare herself to conquer Almighty Death when he comes to take Satyavan. She is attacked by a dark force which uses her remaining griefs and fears to destroy her new-found happiness.

Savitri’s chakras open now that she has found her soul and the Divine Mother has come into her being and awakened her Kundalini power. The consciousness of the Divine Mother and the consciousness of Savitri’s immortal soul govern her life. Her acts become the acts of God, in harmony with natural good, and all her emotions give themselves to God. Her mind stops being an uncertain guide of her life and becomes a divinely mastered instrument. A first perfection’s stage is reached at last in Savitri’s yogic preparation to face Death.

When Savitri meets her Immortal soul, her being calls the Divine Mother to come into her mortal house and make it her home. When the Divine Mother comes, the first touch of her feet awakens the Kundalini force asleep in the inconscient part of Savitri’s being. It rises all the way up through the subtle mystic stream where her chakras are, and emerges in the Eternal’s space above Savitri’s head, awakening all the chakras along the way.
