Savitri has entered the house of her Immortal soul at the center of her heart chakra. Here she meets the Infinite being who sees the finite world; the Eternal being who upholds the acts of passing time. This is Savitri’s secret soul, who has guided her and helped her to evolve through countless lifetimes. It is the Immortal self who supports the mortal actor in the human scene. When they meet in this chamber of flame and light and look upon each other, they know themselves.

Savitri enters the cave of her soul through the entrance carved in the massive stone of matter’s trance. As she comes closer to the house of her soul she sees great figures of gods, conscious in stone and living without breath. Savitri feels herself made one with all she sees and realizes that she is all the gods and more. After many realizations she is prepared to meet her soul. When she comes all the way through the mystic cavern of her soul, she finds herself facing the house of her soul, all made of flame and light.

After Savitri meets her three Soul-Powers, she steps into a night of God. Her mind, her vital, and her ego realize they are nothing before the Supreme Truth of Being. They accept the fact that that they can do nothing without the presence and power of the Divine which comes through its connection with the immortal soul. When we have reached this state, we are ready for the Psychic Transformation, which is the first major step to be achieved in the practice of Sri Aurobindo’s yoga. Savitri is coming very close to entering the mystic cavern in the sacred hill, where she will find and become one with her secret soul.

Savitri meets her third soul-force, the Mother of Light and Joy and Peace, the Power that labors towards the best. The Mother of Light is surrounded by a clear and crystal light in a space where the spirit thrills with nearness to its source. She works to lift man’s soul nearer to the Light. The Savitri hears the the warped echo from below on earth, the voice of the sense-shackled human mind. It can only see the physical surfaces of life, and cannot perceive inner things or the Spirit, or know the Truth. He complains that if God is at work, God’s secrets he has found, but in the end, the world itself becomes a doubt. All is a speculation or a dream, and he cannot believe that man could grow Immortal and Divine.

Savitri meets her second soul-force, the Mother of Might, her being of power. She stands upon earth’s paths of danger and grief to help the unfortunate and save the doomed. She is fortune and fate. Reckless of sin and virtue and earthly consequence, she serves the will of God, who sent her forth. Then Savitri hears the voice of the warped echo on earth, the Dwarf-Titan; the deformed, chained god, who strives to master his nature’s rebel stuff and make the universe his instrument. He is the Ego of this great world of desire, who claims earth and the wide heavens for the use of man.

Savitri has started on the upward ascent to her soul. On the way she meets the first of the triple soul-forces, the Mother of Compassion. She hears her story of Divine Pity and her complaints, and then she hears the self-pitying story and the complaints of the wrathful lower force of ignorance, the Titan driven by anger and suffering. Savitri promises to return, bringing the Eternal’s wisdom and Force to help her being of compassion do her Divine work in the world.

Guided by her higher being, her Jeevatman, Savitri has started the search for her soul so she can fulfill her destiny and conquer death. She has seen that her own inferior nature still takes too large a place in her being. It must be pushed aside to find her soul. She is told that she must find her heaven-born soul in matter’s body. Savitri enters her inner being at the subconscient’s gate and makes her way through the outermost levels of her subtle being, where there are only basic life energies, which are not governed by the ordering mind, and which are also not influenced by the presence of her soul. It is a difficult journey. Savitri has to be strong and focused, and concentrated.

In her dream of the Cosmic past Savitri sees our past still living in our unconscious selves and how it has hidden influences on us and all we do. “An old self still lurks in the new self we are.” Old thoughts and longings and dead passions rise from our inconscient and without the presence of our soul, we can do nothing to stop their influence. “The seeds of sins renounced sprout from hid soil.” Then she sees that this is only matter’s first self-view. With the mysterious influence of our hidden soul, man can transcend his earthly self. The greatnesses hidden in his unseen parts can come forward. The soul pushes man to seek for good and for beauty and for God. Then man mounts to his high source and calls the godhead into his mortal life. A portion of the Might Mother comes into Savitri and dreams in the passion of her far-seeing spirit to mould humanity into God’s own shape and lead the world to light. But to do this Savitri must first find her soul.

Savitri is having a dream which discloses the cosmic past. She has been guided by the great deathless Voice to seek for her soul, and to empty her mind and let her heart’s throbs beat in God. The dream has already revealed the origins and beginnings of world fate. Now the dream discloses what the endlessly-active mind is like when the conscious soul stays within and is absent from the mind’s workings. Then she sees the vital being, also devoid of the presence of the soul, and she sees what harm lower vital energies can do when the soul is absent. “Man’s house of life holds not the gods alone … all is there, even God’s opposites.” She sees the worst possibilities of vital activity when man falls prey to the influences and presences of the lower vital energies of the creation. These are carried by vital beings and vital forces that man harbors within him. “But there is a guardian power, there are Hands that save, calm eyes divine regard the human scene.”
