Death tells Savitri that her love is a hunger of her heart and a yearning of her flesh. Love cannot last. Someone else will come along for her now that Satyavan is gone. Death claims that love is not immortal, it has a thousand ways to suffer and die. As time goes by, disillusion comes and life’s harsh reality stares at the soul.
Savitri has been moving on in a lovely dream twilight, filled with the beautiful beginnings of high ideals. Because of this some light has come into the darkness of Death’s path. Death tries to stop Savitri by attacking the truth of having ideals. He belittles Savitri’s eternal love for Satyavan. He repeats that all comes from Nothingness and returns to Nothingness and he claims that the earth is a world of death which does not want to change and which nothing can improve.
The faint gleam of Immortal Light has conquered the darkness at this stage of Savitri’s journey on the dark path where she is pursuing Satyavan and Death. Now Savitri travels in a happy, misty, twilight dream-world of beautiful and uplifting ideals and hopes. But nothing is fixed here, and nothing stays for long. “Thus all could last and nothing ever be.” The first tremulous beginnings of high and beautiful ideals never progress further into becoming manifested realities. Savitri wishes no end to her journey here.

Death refuses to accept Savitri’s statement that God is Love and that He will remake Death’s universe. He responds by saying that there is no other God but he. He claims that all are born from his depths, all live by Death and all return to his depths and are no more. Savitri knows this is all falsehood. She says that Love in her knows the truth and she can feel God within her. At the end of this broadcast is the recording from Mother’s Agenda on April 13, 1962, where Mother speaks of her experience of becoming the Origin and the Supreme Love manifesting the universe through big pulsations. Mother had been ill for several months before this, and her voice shows how exhausted and weak she is. This is the original recording. It has the voices of other people and very long pauses filled with background noise. Mother tells the whole of her experience in English instead of in French. Then she begins to speak in French. In later Agenda talks, Mother says that Sri Aurobindo is in her experience. It is possible that Sri Aurobindo is helping Mother to speak because she is so weak and exhausted, and this is why she speaks in English. The background noise is extremely loud because the volume of the recorder is turned up as Mother’s voice is so weak.
Savitri refuses Death’s warnings that she will lose her life because she has violated great laws by daring to get Satyavan back. She declares her own Immortality and the power of her living soul against Law and Fate. Wherever Death leads the soul of Satyavan, she will pursue them. Savitri tells Death that God is Love, and he will remake Death’s universe.
Death tries to make Savitri return to a life on earth without Satyavan. She refuses to be dominated by Death or controlled by Death’s commands. She is not intimidated. Savitri is aware of Death’s falsehoods and she remains conscious of her own force and her immortality.
Savitri dares to journey through the eternal Night, following Satyavan as Death herds him through the Inconscient. The immense refusal of the ignorant, eternal NO in the origin of things falls upon Savitri’s consciousness. She suffers the fierce spiritual agony of a dream, and loses sight of her beloved Satyavan. But Savitri lives in spite of Death. She conquers her dark dream and a faint, pale gleam of immortal light begins to glow in the darkness. It grows until Savitri can again see the luminous shade of Satyavan moving on in front of her.
Savitri hears the voice of Almighty Death for the first time. Death tells her to release her hold on Satyavan and return back to her lonely life on earth. Savitri draws back the powerful force of her heart, and Satyavan’s spirit rises out of his body. He starts to move away, herded by Death, as a herdsman herds a sheep. Savitri follows them even though Death tries to make her go back.
Satyavan has passed away in Savitri’s arms. At this tremendous moment in Savitri’s life, a great change comes upon her. This is the final spiritual change that Savitri has been working for in her yoga. It is the last thing she needs to prepare her to conquer Almighty Death. Now she can follow Death to bring Satyavan back. Savitri rises to face the dreadful god. The two oppose each other with their eyes.
