Prison Audio: Phone Calls From Prison

Rick Seaton, a former assistant chief administrative officer for the City of Shreveport, Louisiana, was convicted in 2011 of forcibly raping an 18-year-old woman in his City Hall office. The incident occurred in 2010 after the city's New Year’s Eve celebrations. Seaton was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime. The case was widely reported due to Seaton's position within the city administration and the circumstances of the assault.

Eric Estrada is currently incarcerated in California State Prison, Corcoran. He is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. I was recently able to talk with Eric about his life growing up in a gang, the death of his brother at a young age and how that ultimately lead him to a life in prison.

Eric made a dramatic change in his life in 2012 when he left his old lifestyle to focus on religion. Since then Eric has facilitated and stated many programs inside the prison including his own podcast called Change-Talk.

I was recently able to talk to Jon about his own journey from bringing a gun to his high school at the age of 16 to spending 17 years in prison. After his release from prison in 2020 he began speaking publicly about gun violence and the youth mental health crisis.

These are some clips from a recent video visitation that I had with my friend Celeste.
Celeste is a remarkably resilient and compassionate woman who has navigated through significant challenges in her life. Despite enduring early struggles with substance abuse and finding herself entangled in a controversial religious organization. Her 23 years of sobriety, dedication to teaching and mentoring others, and the support she receives from a loving family and community highlight her commitment to personal growth and making a positive impact despite facing a 30-year sentence, which many believe raises questions about the fairness of her conviction.

Vasil Heisler is currently serving a 55-year prison sentence in New Jersey State Prison. This is the second part of my conversation with him.
