When we are overwhelmed, anxious, or in danger, our senses go on high alert. Cool fact: we can also use our five senses to help our bodies calm-down and regulate. In this episode, I’m excited to continue our conversation about recovery from burnout and talk about ways that we can use our senses to help promote self-care and regulation.
This is a short episode and will be a shallow-end wade rather than a deep dive into a conversation about the senses. I hope it will inspire more curiosity about your body, your triggers, and your own window of tolerance. Even more importantly, I hope it encourages you to have more compassion for yourself and those around you on your soul-care and recovery journey.
May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

Today we continue our soul-care series on burnout, chronic stress, and recovery. If you missed the first two episodes, please go back and give them a listen.
In this episode, we’re diving into the role shame plays in our lives, how it distances us from other people, and the cycle it perpetuates. We also talk about the role compassion plays in combating shame.
If you enjoy today’s episode, and you’d like to learn more about shame, I highly recommend Curt Thompson’s book, The Soul of Shame.

Welcome to February! I’m interrupting our series on burnout, self-care, and recovery, to bring you a fabulous guest interview with Em, from The Fifteen Minutes Podcast.
Chatting with Emelly is a joy, and you are really going to be encouraged by her story. She is a wife, mother, data scientist, and also a podcaster. In this conversation, we talk about how Em came to the United States from Indonesia, her journey of faith, her career, and motherhood. Of course we also talk about soul-care and how she manages to prioritize what’s most important in life while managing such a busy schedule.
If you enjoy this conversation, please go check out Emelly’s podcast, The Fifteen Minutes Podcast. You will love it!
May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

Today we continue our conversation about burnout, weariness, and the winter blues, by diving into the world of regulation and dysregulation.
Our bodies feel best, most connected, alert, and present, when we’re in our “window of tolerance,” but when we live through chronic stress or trauma, that window of tolerance can shrink leaving us feeling more often dysregulated.
Join me today as we talk about the symptoms of dysregulation, the signs of hyperarousal and hypoarousal, and what they tell us about our bodies, our sense of safety, and our emotions.
If you’d like to learn more about the window of tolerance, please check out the following resources:
I look forward to continuing this conversation with you soon. May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

This month we’re starting a new podcast series about burnout, fatigue, depression, and the winter blues. Over the coming weeks we will talk about simple and practical ways that we can show ourselves and others compassion in the midst of hard seasons, maybe learn a little about psychology and physiology along the way, and also root our hope and healing in Christ.
In today’s episode, I talk about the current culture of burnout in the midst of a pandemic that feels like it will never end. Then we close our time together remembering promises in Scripture about how God meets us in our weariness.
May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

Abide is one of my favorite words, and in today’s reflection episode we will meditate on a passage of Scripture together and explore what it means to really abide in Christ.
In the months of January and February, the podcast will be focusing on burnout and self-care. What better place to start than to center ourselves in Christ and remember that He is the vine and we are the branches. We can do nothing apart from Him. He sustains us.
May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

What better way to start out the New Year than to have a realistic and encouraging conversation about self-care? Today’s guest, Jenn Collins, has a heart to encourage weary, burned-out mothers, and I absolutely loved talking with her about the necessities of self-care.
Jenn is the founder of Mama Needs Subscription Box, and she’s also a podcast host of the Mama Needs Podcast. In this episode, she shares her story of motherhood and burnout, how she came to start her business and podcast, and where she is finding joy in this season of life.

Join me today for a seven-minute pause in your day to breathe, renew, and reflect on the peace of Christmas.
If your life isn’t feeling particularly peaceful right now, then I think this episode may be all the more helpful. Perhaps the concept of peace is different than we imagine.
May we celebrate the Prince of Peace this Advent season, and may He form new tributaries of life, growth, and peace in our lives.

Today’s guest, Missy Stone, is an old friend of PRN. She was actually one of my first guests on the podcast, three years ago, and her episode continues to be popular today. The first time Missy was on the podcast, we talked about her struggles with anxiety, and how the Lord had recently carried her through a health crisis.
On today’s episode, we continue our conversation about how she is managing anxiety, because since our last conversation, Missy and her family have lived through a major life transition. Over the past year and a half Missy has gone from living in a home in NC to living in an RV for a year. She and her family are now resettling and beginning to put down roots in the beautiful city of Charleston, SC.
Missy and I chat about RV living, what she’s learned through transition, the gift of minimalism, her ongoing struggle with anxiety, and themes of soul-care. You are going to love this conversation!
To learn more about Missy and read about her adventures in Charleston, you can visit her blog, or follow her adventures on Instagram.
May you be encouraged on your journey with Jesus.

Today’s podcast is a biography episode! I love hearing the stories of women of faith who have gone before us and finished the race well. Today’s episode highlights an incredibly courageous woman whose faith and bravery changed a nation. Her name is Pandita Ramabai.
This story takes place across the globe in India during the 19th century, yet the effects of this woman’s life are still felt today. If you love history, if you love true stories, if you love inspiring faith stories, or if you love to hear stories of strong women, then this episode is for you.
If something from today’s episode resonated with you, I’d love to hear about it. Comment below or follow PRN on Facebook or Instagram and share your thoughts!
