Wooldridge said this success enables Cobre to proceed with engineering work, advanced metallurgical studies, and scoping studies to assess the economic feasibility of in-situ recovery.

Additionally, new intersections have indicated potential for further high-grade mineralisation, enhancing the project’s prospects. Early drilling had not consistently replicated initial high-grade finds, but recent data suggests more extensive vertical high-grade zones. The agreement includes a 5% royalty payment to Firebird from Sunward on future sales revenue of the units, while allowing Firebird the right to partner with other manufacturers.

Sunward will fund half the cost of a pilot plant for the calcining units, estimated at approximately US$200,000. They will also handle the engineering design and manufacturing. The pilot plant is expected to be completed within two months, with data from testing to inform the current project design.

Allen stated that the agreement validated the company's work and highlighted the calibre of partners they were attracting in China. Firebird aims to use this collaboration to determine the commercial viability of its energy recycling system, which could significantly reduce operating costs in its manganese sulphate plant.

Firebird remains focused on delivering energy-efficient improvements through its proprietary technologies, believing that the Energy-Saving Calcining Technology and 5th Generation Crystallization Technology will enable it to become a low-cost producer of high-purity manganese sulphate.

The PEA is expected to be released in early Q1 2025 and comes amid a promising outlook for the long-term copper market.

Wares explained that the foundation of the PEA will be the updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) at Copper Mountain. The updated MRE includes an open-pit Indicated Resource of 495 million tonnes grading 0.37% copper-equivalent (CuEq). This represents a significant 30% increase in copper-equivalent metal content compared to the previously reported copper-only Inferred Resource. Notably, the conversion rate from Inferred to Indicated category exceeds 99%, showcasing the robustness of the resource.

The updated MRE outlines a substantial 3.25 billion pounds of contained copper, excluding additional significant molybdenum and silver resources. The Copper Mountain in-pit Indicated Resource now stands as the largest undeveloped copper asset in Eastern North America, highlighting its strategic importance and potential for future development.

To advance this work, Osisko Metals is conducting an 8,000 to 10,000-metre drilling program. This initiative aims to partially define Measured Resources and improve overall grades. Additionally, the drilling will test the potential for near-surface mineralization around the historical Needle Mountain mine, which was the initial operation for Gaspé Copper in the 1950s.
