  • Magnetite Mines and JFE Shoji Australia partner for Razorback Project
Magnetite Mines Ltd (ASX:MGT) CEO Tim Dobson joins Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss a non-binding Heads of Agreement with JFE Shoji Australia Pty. Ltd. (JFE), a subsidiary of JFE Shoji Corporation. This agreement outlines the terms for negotiating a binding transaction. JFE will provide funding for the completion of the Razorback Iron Ore Project's Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and, in return, will receive rights to up to 10% of the ‘DR-grade’ magnetite concentrate production over a 15-year period. JFE also has the option to convert these rights into equity or joint venture participation. Both companies aim to finalise a definitive agreement by January 31, 2025.
Dobson highlighted the strong relationship formed with JFE over the past year and expressed optimism about the long-term collaboration and how the strategic alignment of the Razorback Project aligns with global decarbonisation efforts. South Australian Minister for Energy and Mining, Tom Koutsantonis, endorsed the agreement, aligning it with the state's Green Iron and Steel Strategy.
This agreement follows extensive due diligence by JFE, including site visits since April 2023. The companies plan to develop the project through a joint venture, leveraging mutual strengths to meet the rising demand for green iron.

  • Botala Energy delivers 42% increase in CBM resources
Botala Energy Ltd (ASX:BTE) CEO Kris Martinick joins Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss a 42% increase in the 2C Contingent Resources within its Serowe Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Project in Botswana, bringing the total to 454 billion cubic feet (bcf) after a recent recertification by Sproule in the USA. This increase stems from extensive exploration and improved mapping techniques, resulting in a better understanding of CBM potential. The new low estimate of 363 bcf (2C) surpasses the previous best-case estimate of 317 bcf (2C).
This upgrade occurs as southern Africa faces a predicted gas shortage by 2026, as forecast by Sasol. Botala's strategic location and increased resources enhance its potential to significantly contribute to energy security in Botswana and the broader region.
Martinick expressed enthusiasm over the resource increase and the project's potential to supply gas to southern Africa, including South Africa's industrial heartland. He highlighted Botala's strong position to leverage this opportunity, anticipating successful gas flow-rate investigations and partnerships that will benefit shareholders.
The updated resource assessment by Sproule includes key points such as the increased 2C Contingent Resources, additional drilling and exploration activities, and new geological insights.
Six additional wells have been drilled since the last report in April 2022, confirming significant coal intervals with free gas. The updated assessment also factors in a 15% reduction in coal volumes due to dolerite intrusions.
Future steps involve further production testing to classify resources as reserves, with a phased exploration and testing program planned to achieve feasibility and commerciality.

  • FTSE 100 opens higher as Labour sweeps to victory; housebuilders regain lost ground - Market Report
London's FTSE 100 rose at the open on Friday as the Labour party swept to victory in the general election.
Housebuilders led the charge as Labour vowed to kickstart the development of thousands of additional new homes.
Barratt Developments, Vistry Group, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey were among the top risers, shrugging off a 0.2% decline in house prices in June.
The Halifax House Price Index showed a £476 decrease in the average house price to £288,455.
Over the past year, prices have risen by 1.6%, with a modest increase of 0.4% since the beginning of 2024.
Meanwhile, Shell is expected to write down up to $1 billion in impairment charges after pausing construction of its 820-000-tonne-per-year biofuels facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
In a second-quarter trading update, the oil major said it expects non-cash post-tax impairments of up to $2 billion, with up to half of that arising from pausing on-site construction of the Rotterdam facility.

  • Tempest Minerals prepares for drilling at Yalgoo project's Remorse target
Tempest Minerals Ltd (ASX:TEM) managing director Don Smith is back in the Proactive studio after the company received permitting approvals for a drilling program at the Remorse copper-zinc target, part of the flagship Yalgoo Project in Western Australia.
The initial plan is to complete 5,000 metres using a reverse circulation (RC) drilling rig, expected to start in mid-July. Of course, the program's commencement is contingent on the completion of earthworks, which had previously been delayed due to heavy rainfall partially flooding the area.
The Remorse target was selected based on geochemical and geophysical anomalies identified during surveys, wherein Tempest has interpreted a 4-kilometre area as prospective for copper-zinc mineralisation.
To further investigate, the company conducted a second extensional geochemical survey, collecting some 80 soil samples. These samples will undergo Ultrafine assay and Boxscan technology for comprehensive analysis, with results also expected in mid-July.
With the permit approvals in hand, Tempest has confirmed that all preparations are complete and the team is ready to begin earthworks and drilling as soon as weather and ground conditions permit.
The announcement comes soon after the explorer secured the rubber stamp for an exploration incentive scheme (EIS) grant, expected to co-fund exploration over the FiveWheels Base Metals Project in Western Australia.
The grant will provide $230,000 in funding to support the program, which will take place in the 2024-25 financial year. Consequently, Tempest is gearing up for an airborne gravity and magnetic geophysical survey over the FiveWheels asset, which bears geographical similarities to Rumble Resources Ltd (ASX:RTR, OTC:RTRFF) and Strickland Metals Ltd (ASX:STK)'s nearby base metals discoveries.

  • Torr Metals' Filion gold project moves forward with new three-year exploration permit
Torr Metals CEO Malcolm Dorsey joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion after the government of Ontario granted a three-year exploration permit for drilling at its Filion gold project.
This significant advancement allows the company to further develop the 260 km² project in northern Ontario, which benefits from excellent infrastructure, including access to the Trans-Canada Highway 11, rail, road, and power grid. The project operates out of Kapuskasing, negating the need for remote exploration camps and enabling low-cost exploration.
Dorsey said the project, acquired through staking in October 2023, has shown promising early results. Torr Metals' exploration model identified structural controls and stratigraphy indicative of significant gold deposits. Historical high-grade samples, up to 91g per tonne gold, and initial reconnaissance programs have yielded encouraging results. Six gold soil anomalies were identified, with the largest anomaly having a strike length of 1,200 meters and a width of 250 meters. Soil assays returned up to 1.3g per tonne gold.
With the exploration permit, Dorsey said the company plans to drill and extend the soil anomaly potentially to 2.5 km in length. Additional work may include soil sampling and ground magnetic surveys. Investors should expect updates on site mobilization and exploration program developments.
