  • Lithium Australia completes initial LieNA® piloting stage
Lithium Australia Ltd CEO Simon Linge sits down with Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson following the completion of the initial stage of the company’s LieNA® piloting at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), under a joint development agreement with Mineral Resources Ltd (MinRes).
This stage involved producing an intermediate product from spodumene concentrate supplied by MinRes through multiple caustic conversion campaigns. This intermediate product is crucial for producing refined lithium phosphate in the final phase of the pilot, set to begin at the end of this month, with completion expected by year-end.
Lithium Australia reported successful operation of the caustic conversion part of the LieNA® pilot plant, completing four campaigns over 18 days of continuous operation. Depending on the outcomes of the piloting and subsequent engineering study, the companies plan to form a 50:50 joint venture to commercialise LieNA® technology via a licensing model. This JV will own the technology and aim to license it globally, targeting an 8% gross product royalty rate.
The first licence is expected for a demonstration plant, with further licences planned for new and existing spodumene mines worldwide. Lithium Australia aims to lead in sustainable lithium production and battery recycling. Their patented LieNA® technology positions them to benefit from rising lithium-ion battery demand and diversify global supply chains.
Linge stated that this milestone leads into the final phase of piloting to produce high-quality lithium phosphate, reflecting the commitment to commercialise the LieNA® technology. Further updates on piloting operations and the demonstration plant engineering study are anticipated, progressing towards the formation of the JV and completion of JDA activities in 2024.

  • Sipa Resources plans extensive drilling across WA projects
Sipa Resources Ltd managing director Andrew Muir sits down with Jonathan Jackson in the Proactive studio to discuss preparations for an extensive drilling season across its Western Australian projects.
The company has completed a site visit at Paterson North to prepare for a regional and vector-style drilling program targeting multiple prospects. Paterson North includes the significant 25-million-ounce Tefler gold mine and the Winu and Havieron discoveries, though much of the tenure remains unexplored.
For the 2024 drilling season, Sipa plans to drill the north-eastern part of Paterson North and conduct an air core drilling program at the Skeleton Rocks Project. A detailed review of historical data for Skeleton Rocks confirmed its potential for nickel mineralisation, especially along the 7.5-kilometre Nicoletti Trend, where previous drilling yielded nickel, cobalt, and chromium.
At the Barbwire Terra Joint Venture with Buru Energy Ltd, Sipa is planning a ground gravity survey to cover a data gap in the south-eastern portion of the project. This will support targeting for a diamond drilling program in 2025, funded partly by an Exploration Incentive Scheme grant.
At Warralong, data processing from mapping and sampling will inform future work plans targeting copper mineralisation. Additionally, at Wolfe Basin, Sipa plans a geophysical survey and drilling in 2025, with preliminary site visits and mapping to determine accessibility.
Sipa continues to review its portfolio, remaining open to acquisitions, divestments, or joint ventures.

  • North Bay Resources Completes Testing at Bishop Gold Mill, Targets Initial 5,000 Tons for Processing
North Bay Resources CEO Jared Lazerson joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the completion of flooding and operational testing of flotation cells and frothing equipment at the Bishop Gold Mill in California. These flotation cells, used in combination with frothing reagents, play a critical role in separating gold and sulphides from the host rock. The process produces a gold concentrate that is then dried and refined into gold bars.
Lazerson shared that the company has received assays confirming the presence of 0.5 troy ounces of gold per ton of material from the surface. The company has targeted an initial 5,000 tons of material for test processing, which equates to approximately 2,500 troy ounces of gold. Metallurgical analyses are currently underway to determine the composition and make-up of the material, including the final grind and the efficacy of the selected frothing agent and flocculent used in the flotation cells.
North Bay Resources continues to review gold mine acquisitions and joint ventures throughout the Western US and Canada. The company is committed to acquiring ounces in the ground to support the Bishop Mill and any potential future expansions.
This development marks a significant step in North Bay Resources' efforts to enhance its gold production capabilities and expand its asset base in North America.

  • Kootenay Silver Commences Second Drill Program at Columba Project
Kootenay Silver CEO Jim McDonald joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce that coring is underway with a second drill at the Columba Project in Chihuahua state, Mexico. This effort focuses on extending the known limits of the "D-Vein," with the second drill testing the southeastern extensions of the "B-Vein" and "B2-Vein."
McDonald explained that the second drill will work southeastward along the B-Vein trend towards a priority target zone where surface mapping indicates intersections between the "D-Vein" and the "B-Vein" trends. The B-Vein trend lies along the southeastern extension of the "F-Vein" and contains well-mineralized veins, as evidenced by previous intercepts.
The current drilling program aims to find the strike extent of D-Vein mineralization, preparing for infill drilling and a fully funded follow-up program of 20,000 meters. This extensive drilling effort aims to delineate a maiden resource expected by late 2024. Initially, the second drill will support this goal before moving on to test extensions of other known vein intercepts and conduct initial tests on promising yet undrilled targets.
These initiatives mark significant progress in the exploration and potential development of the Columba Project, highlighting Kootenay Silver's commitment to expanding its resource base and advancing its projects in Mexico.

  • Synairgen provides update on progress during 2023
Synairgen PLC chief executive Richard Marsden takes Proactive's Stephen Gunnion through the company's progress and future plans following the release of its full-year results.
Marsden provided an overview of Synairgen's work over the past year, focusing on the development of an inhaled, broad-spectrum antiviral drug aimed at treating common respiratory viruses.
He highlighted the exciting data generated from various clinical trials during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a decrease in hospitalisations due to current virus strains, the trials showed promising results in preventing severe outcomes in infected patients.
Synairgen is now focusing on a Phase II trial for mechanically ventilated patients with severe viral lung infections. Marsden explained the rationale behind targeting this population, noting the high mortality rates and lack of antiviral therapeutic options for these patients.
He also discussed the company's preparations for the trial, including lab work and collaborations with intensive care physicians. Marsden emphasised the strong commercial case for developing effective treatments in this area. Looking ahead, Synairgen is exploring funding options to support the upcoming trial, set to commence this winter.
