Reverend Shelley McVea finishes her summer long examination of Paul’s letter to the Romans.   St Paul says, whether we live or whether we die, we belong the Lord.  And how are we to do this?   By welcoming those who are weak in faith and those who disagree with us.  But we have to find a way to do this without quarrelling over opinions or judging others.

Proclamation! For Sunday, 10 September 2023, Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Reverend Shelley McVea explains today that we are called by Jesus to celebrate, to sing with and to love each other.  But what happens when we disagree? Jesus has advice for that too.  Jesus recommends that we quietly take each other aside, and have a private discussion with the person we are in conflict with and resolve the disagreement in that manner, discretely.

Proclamation! For Sunday, 27 August 2023, Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Today we are joined by a very special guest speaker, the musician, composer, and activist Ruth Fazal.  Ruth works to build connections of friendship and worship between Christians and Jews in Jerusalem.  In this sermon Ruth describes the spiritual journey she went on when she took on the task of creating an oratorio based on “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” a book of poems and artwork of Jewish children from the time of the holocaust.  Ruth is an accomplished violinist, as you will hear when she takes a moment of musical meditation near the beginning of her sermon.

Proclamation! For Sunday, 20 August 2023, Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Today our guest preacher, Reverend Sandra Seaborn, leads us through three powerful scriptures: the Old Testament moment when Joseph in Egypt reveals his true identify to his brothers;  the New Testament story of the woman who shouts at Jesus, begging him as the Son of David to expel demons from her daughter; and, the epistle of Paul to the Romans, stating that the message of Jesus is for all, Gentiles and Jews.

Proclamation! For Sunday, 6 August 2023, Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

Reverend Shelley McVea observes that almost everybody has experienced the feeling of a broken heart.  St. Paul recommends that we read Romans 8 in order to find consolation in Christ.  In today’s verses from Romans 9, Paul reveals that he lives in “great sorrow and unceasing anguish”.

Proclamation! For the Fifth Sunday of Easter: Sunday, 7 May 2023  

Reverend Shelley McVea considers the question that Thomas asked of Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” The answer that Jesus gives Thomas indicates that Jesus is both the journey and the destination: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”  Jesus promises to take us to himself, and to dwell with us there in a place he has prepared.
