Behold the Lamb of God
Reverend Shelley McVea continues our experience of the “aha!” season with the baptism of Christ.  The greatest prophet John the Baptist prepares the way to Jesus by baptizing his cousin Jesus.  John sees in that moment a dove descending, and John proclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”  Jesus shows us the path to a redeemed life, so that we can find freedom through the forgiveness of sin.

Proclamation! For the first Sunday after Epiphany: Sunday, 8 January 2023:  

Reverend Shelley McVea welcomes us into the great “aha!” season, immersing us into experience of the epiphany (“epi” = abundance and “phany” = sighting).  We are like those original astronomers who followed the stars through the dark of night to arrive the place where Jesus was born, there are ways that we too can allow God to enter anew into our lives.

Proclamation! For the first Sunday of 2023, a New Year’s Day Sermon: Bring the Children to Glory
A new season of Proclamation! Begins with a New Year’s Day sermon from Reverend Shelley McVea.  Shelley tells us about the passage from Isaiah, where we are told that God came to earth to serve as our saviour in all of our distress, not despite our distress, but because of it.  The god for whom and through whom all things exist, who is all powerful, wants to bring many children to glory.  We are those children.

Proclamation! For the Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost Sunday, 6 November 2022

Reverend Shelley McVea takes a deeper look at the way that some people asked questions of Jesus.  Not everyone was looking for answers, instead they were looking for ways to trip Jesus up.  But Jesus doesn’t not get tripped up.  He says that God, “not of the dead, but of the living”.

Proclamation! For the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost: Sunday, 30 October 2022

Reverend Shelley McVea tells the stories of two different biblical figures:  the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk and the tax collector Zacchaeus in the New Testament.  Habakkuk cries out against the injustice that he sees around him, and after a time of silence, God answers him.   Zacchaeus climbs a sycamore tree to get a glimpse of Jesus, but he gets much more than that.  Jesus calls him by name.

Reverend Shelley McVea reminds us that a tiny mustard seed of faith is all it takes to do the impossible.  And the impossible is found inside the bounds of normal life.  Placing our faith in Jesus and doing God’s work through the simple acts of daily life.  “All you do is done with my grace.”

Reverend Shelley McVea tackles a most curious parable, that of the dishonest manager.  When his boss found out that he was cheating him, he was fired.  But afraid that he would not be able to find work, the manager undercut his boss one more time before leaving.  And what is Jesus’ perspective? Does Jesus really have kind words for the dishonest manager’s shrewdness?
