  • Be yourself in recruitment - or someone else - Ask Rich & Ed Ep20
We get lots of questions from our listener on Procurement Says No.  Now you can listen to them all again in our series of mini bite-sized podcast chunks. Like dog food.

In episode 20 we answer your questions on how best to prepare for interviews; why some businesses only like to recruit from their own sectors (mostly because they are stupid); and which job to take - a big job in a big company or a bigger job in a smaller company.

All of the procurement questions, all of the time.

  • Speak like a CEO - Procurement Says No Ep41
Yes, now you too can speak like a CEO.   You can have suppliers, customers, team members and entire financial institutions hanging on your every word.

All you need to do is reach out, touch base, circle back, pivot, fix forward and find a new narrative.

Alternatively, listen to Rich and Ed exploding the myths of this nonsense talk - because CEOs don't really speak like this at all!

And we'll be sharing the secrets of developing a sooper dooper Procurement Vision - full of wordy words.

Plus lots of news of procurement jobs on the chopping block of AI; the first anniversary of the UK Procurement Act (yippee); problems at Ford; Amazon lay offs (bring on enshittification); Canadians get angry; India spends more on killing machines; and tariffs, tariffs, tariffs (again).

Oh, and a competition to win a book (with words and pictures).

With apologies to the Icelandic Tourist Board.

Recorded waaaaay back in September 2024 - see if you can tell which bits of the Act have now been significantly improved following feedback from users (clue - none).

Is there any data to show whether public procurement rues enhance or stifle competition?
What are the rules on publishing notices and conract awards?
Why don't we just scrap all this nonsense?
What are the best and worst bits of the new Act?

All of the procurement questions, all of the time.

  • Build a procurement platform aka End of Alchemie - Procurement Says No Ep40
Rich and Ed welcome Alex Jennings from the Alchemie Network to explain what went right and what went wrong with the world's best procurement ex-online network; including the weather (how very British); the history of Alex; Alchemie's inspiration (mainly boredom) and principles; "THE ALGORITHM"; and whether subscription models will save the world.

We've also got a tonne of news including "Enshittification"; Tonkean's view of AI growth; AI's role in procurement and its lack of prioritisation; EU defence spending; Jacobs buys PA Consulting to improve biscuit management; and bourbon (not biscuits) sales and knickers down in the US in a race to the bottom.  And lots of mentions of Grok and our now abandoned Naked Procurement group.

So many insights into the crazy world of procurement, you will learn sooooo much - so it'd be quite silly to miss this one.

  • Predicting the predictable - Procurement Says No Ep39
Last year (and the year before) Rich and Ed made a whole load of procurement predictions - and a few others.    Now it's crunch time as we find out how many came true.

Virtually all of them it turns out.   What a pair of prediction-genius-types!
    • ESG - correct
    • Tariffs - correct
    • Befriending IT - correct
    • Obvious stuff from CAPS and Deloitte is true - correct
    • Recession in the West - well, close
    • COP30 - correct
    • Amazon - correct
    • A mysterious leader will emerge from the sea and form an aquatic emprie - correct (sort of)
    • Kearney talking nonsense - correct
    • CIPs resurgence (helped by us of course) - correct
And now we have a whole load of more predictions - so get ready to place your bets - possibly everything on black  Or was it red?

So, just by listening to Procurement Says No you can potentially make millions of dollars in bet winnings by gambling your house on our predictions (which we don't recommend by the way).

P.s. We're not sure if "bug people from the moon will eat all the cheese on Earth" will be accurate but it still stands in our list.
