  • EJR with Jeanine Molloff-- Justice of Any Type Demands We End the Filibuster
This show exists to report environmental injustice and demand substantive reform. Recently, it has come to my attention that the problem is far more vast than previously considered. In order to bring about environmental justice, (or for that matter--any type of justice), we must have laws that reflect equal justice before TRUE rule of law. Presently, 'rule of law' in the USA--is on life support and failing fast. This is due to the fact that the US Congress is staffed by corporate toadies and political cowards. The Congress does not represent the will of the people and hasn't for some time. Even when progressives are elected, their hands are tied by legislative 'rules' in the Senate which effectively neuter any semblance of democratic rule. Chief among these legislative obscenites--is the filibuster. In essence, because of the filibuster, a small group of senators can block legislation and thwart the will of the people for their corporate masters.
The Brennan Center for Justice has published a very thorough paper detailing the history and the daily effect of the filibuster, in addition to providing solutions.
This show will discuss why the filibuster must be eradicated in order to actually establish a functional democracy.
    Come tune in.

  • EJR with Jeanine Molloff--Texas Power Outages Caused by Greed and Deregulation
The recent Texas power blackouts did not happen in a vacuum. They were engineered to happen for one specific cause--to increase demand and skyrocket profits. The energy industry serving Texas has been deregulated for many years now, and is not part of any federal grid. Now the blackout has resulted in households receiving power bills in the THOUSANDS of dollars, for shoddy, undependable service. Now, those of you who believe this was due to a recent oversight are wrong. This has been in the making for quite a while, tracing its origins in part, to a law signed off in 1999 by then Governor George W. Bush, which legalized price gouging that would make the original mafia--blush.
Come tune in and hear the story of legalized criminality in Texas.

  • Progressive News Network and the COVID Vaccine Shortages--VS Patent Monopolies
As national shortages of COVID vaccines have dominated the news cycle, we have yet to question the dominant narrative that blindly accepts the claims of BIG PHARMA and those medical pros who are in their employ. CEPR Lead Economist Dean Baker DOES not accept the generic excuses. Baker explains, along with others, that the shortages could have been reduced, (if not prevented outright), if the US had abandoned the automatic issuance of patent monopolies to pharmaceutical corporations who manufacture the vaccine. That's our lead story.
Secondly, I want to offer my feelings on the passing of radio shock-jock Rush Limbaugh, and the propagandistic statements made by Republican office holders. It's time to challenge GOP legislators on their sorry historic revisionism.
Finally, a few previews of whats to come in future programming in my weekly Justice Report. The Sorry State of Vaccine DIstribution in Missouri and the Media Blackout. While Florida Governor Ron Desantis has been outed in the media; fellow Trump acolyte Mike Parsons has escaped media scrutiny. Why?

  • EJR with Jeanine Molloff--How SLAPP suits enable environmental disaster.
Last week, noted environmental activist Maggie Hurchalla joined us and explained how she was SLAPPED with a frivolous lawsuit by a mining corporation. The lawsuit had no actual merit, but was allowed to commence. The judge limited what the jury could consider as relevant facts by forbidding any testimony relating to 1st Amendment rights. Now, most people consider the 1st amendment in terms of free speech or religious rights, but forget another aspect--namely the right to "petition government for redress of grievances." Maggie was denied that right by the judge's order, which is common among what has been termed as SLAPP suits. SLAPP suits are civil lawsuits, with usually no merit, that are filed by corporate interests to silence any criticism or public participation. In fact, the acronomy SLAPP stands for Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation. These civil lawsuits exist solely to silence the public. Usually, the coporation wins by default as the average person can't meet the expenses of a long, protracted fight in the courts. All the corporate attorneys have to do in most cases--is wait out the clock.
SLAPP suits are particularly notorious in environmental justice cases. They are a key instrument in maintaining the present carte blanche polluting industries have historically enjoyed. The ties to the subsequent environmental racism are also quite evident.
Come join us as we explore this clear abuse of the legal system.
