🎙️ Why Media Ignores You After 54 (Even When You’re the One Watching)
When you don’t count.
We have an 80 year old President and another one just as old lost in 2024.
Our Congress, House and Senate’s, average age is 57.9 in the House and 63.9 in the Senate. Cher is almost 80 and is all over media. Even the Super Bowl is 60.
But as consumers, particularly of media, they don’t count. And if you’re over 54, neither do you. Because the key demographic for TV, Streaming services, Radio, for all media is 25-54.
And yet, we consume more of all of it. For instance, ABC World News tonight gets 9.244 million viewers but only 1.182 in the “key” demographic. So 8.1m over 54 and under 25 viewers and yet, they program for the 1.182m, not you, or them.
Why doesn’t the actual audience count? And it’s not just entertainment, advertising, marketing, billboards, TV ads, almost any commercial media aims at 25-54, or even younger. The reason? They think they have the most money, in their prime, making the money, working. Well, it’s a new world.
And in this one, it seems that it’s the over 54 crowd that is actually engaged, involved, brand loyal and consuming regular media over online. This disconnect is why media is failing.
