  • Democrats, Read the Room: Why AOC, Mamdani and Young Voters Decide
Democrats, Read the Room: Why AOC, Mamdani and Young Voters Could Decide the Future
Republicans are already branding Democrats as “socialists” and “communists” to frighten voters—but should Democrats really let those attacks dictate their agenda?
Candidates such as Zohran Mamdani are winning because younger voters want affordable housing, healthcare, economic fairness and meaningful change.
They’re listening to democratic socialists, liking what they hear and turning out to vote. So why are establishment Democrats fighting the candidates energizing their own base instead of working with leaders such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?
Karel asks whether Democrats truly want transformative change—or simply want to preserve the political status quo.
Also: Working from home remains enormously popular, but a San Francisco landlord reportedly wants to charge residents an additional $200 if they work from their apartments. Is that a reasonable fee, an invasion of privacy or another example of renters being squeezed?
Join the conversation: Should Democrats embrace their progressive wing? And does a landlord have any right to charge tenants for working from home?

  • Middle East on the Brink, Berlin Pride Terror
Middle East on the Brink, Berlin Pride Terror, and America’s Housing Crisis | The Karel Cast
The world feels like it’s balancing on the edge of a knife.
Iran says it will stop bombing if the attacks against it stop, while the Houthis open another dangerous front by targeting Saudi Arabia. Is the Middle East moving toward de-escalation—or toward an even wider regional conflict? And what role is U.S. leadership playing as tensions continue to rise?
Then, tragedy strikes at one of the world’s oldest Pride celebrations. A deadly attack at Berlin Pride leaves people dead and injured, raising difficult questions about extremism, intolerance, and whether religious ideologies that promote hatred can coexist with an open, democratic society. How much responsibility do political leaders and inflammatory rhetoric bear when violence follows?
Plus, I made what I thought was a simple comment about a two-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles renting for $2,500. The response? Thousands of people debating why housing has become unaffordable for so many Americans—and who is really to blame.
Join me as we cut through the headlines, challenge assumptions, and talk about the stories shaping our world today.

  • LGBTQ Rights Under Fire Worldwide:
LGBTQ Rights Under Fire Worldwide: Pride Bans, Political Vetoes and Violence | This Gay Week
LGBTQ rights are advancing in some parts of the world—but this week’s headlines reveal a dangerous global backlash.
On this episode of This Gay Week, Karel examines new reporting about the LGBTQ community in wartime Ukraine, a Romanian city’s refusal to authorize a Pride march, and condemnation of Indonesia’s decision to classify the “spread of LGBTQ culture” as a national security threat.
In Poland, the president has vetoed legislation intended to recognize same-sex couples. In Senegal, the daughter of a prominent anti-LGBTQ advocate has reportedly been arrested on drug and “lesbianism” charges amid an intensifying crackdown. Cape Verde, meanwhile, offers a more hopeful story as one of Africa’s most LGBTQ-friendly countries—even as activists warn that legal protections have not eliminated discrimination and violence.
Back in the United States, a Florida man received seven years after shooting and partially paralyzing his LGBTQ neighbor. In another frightening incident, police killed an armed man accused of opening fire outside a gay dive bar.
These stories span continents, but they raise the same urgent questions: Are governments protecting LGBTQ people—or turning their identities into political targets? Why is Pride still treated as a threat? And what does genuine equality require beyond laws and public promises?
    Stories discussed:
LGBTQ life in Ukraine during the first half of 2026
Man sentenced for shooting and paralyzing LGBTQ neighbor
Romanian city resists authorizing LGBTQ Pride march
ASEAN organization condemns Indonesia’s LGBTQ “security threat” label
Daughter of Senegalese anti-LGBTQ advocate arrested
Cape Verde’s LGBTQ progress amid challenges across Africa
Polish president vetoes bills recognizing same-sex couples
Police kill man accused of firing on gay dive bar

  • Leslie Marshall Show - American Manufacturing at 250: Why America's Industrial Story Still Matters
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Leslie Marshall welcomes Scott Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, for a fascinating look at the people, places, and industries that helped build the nation.
Drawing from his "American Manufacturing 250" tour, Scott takes listeners from the birthplace of America's Industrial Revolution at Slater Mill in Rhode Island to Pittsburgh's legendary Carrie Blast Furnaces and finally to Detroit's "Arsenal of Democracy," where American factories helped secure victory in World War II.
Along the way, Leslie and Scott explore how manufacturing has shaped America's economy, workforce, and national identity—and why a strong manufacturing base remains critical to the country's future. Scott also highlights the Alliance for American Manufacturing's state-by-state Made in America Showcase, celebrating innovative products and companies that continue America's manufacturing legacy today.
It's an engaging conversation about America's past, present, and future—and the enduring role manufacturing plays in all three.

  • Trump’s $87.6 Billion Iran War Request vs. SNAP: War or Food?
Trump’s $87.6 Billion Iran War Request vs. SNAP: War or Food?
The Trump administration wants another $87.6 billion, mostly for military spending connected to the Iran war. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the war has already cost $37.5 billion, while more than 500 American troops have reportedly been wounded and 17 killed. What has this enormous sacrifice accomplished—and where is the plan?
    Consider the numbers:
Annual federal cost of SNAP in FY2024: $99.8 billion
Reported Iran-war cost to date: $37.5 billion
    Administration’s supplemental request: $87.6 billion
Combined amounts under discussion: $125.1 billion
That last comparison is not a precise accounting total—the supplemental package includes some non-war spending and may overlap with costs already incurred—but its scale is staggering. The request alone nearly equals what the federal government spends on SNAP for an entire year.
At a time when millions of Americans are struggling to afford food, housing and healthcare, why can Washington find nearly $90 billion for another war—but not comparable resources to fight hunger and poverty at home?
    Also in this episode:
RFK Jr. claims the cyclospora outbreak is under control despite rising cases, hospitalizations and unanswered questions about its source.
The Trump administration’s assault on HIV/AIDS prevention continues, with approximately 1,700 sites reportedly closed—raising grave concerns about Project 2025, public health and the disproportionate harm inflicted on LGBTQ+ communities.

  • Code Wack - When Your Health Insurance Says 'No' to Your Doctor's Orders
    This time on Code WACK!
For many Americans getting the right medical care isn't just about what their doctors recommend, it's also about what their insurance company is willing to cover. So what happens when those two don't agree? And why can it be so difficult for patients to fight back?
Attorney Lisa Kantor of Kantor & Kantor, LLP has spent more than two decades helping patients challenge health insurance denials. Her cases have ranged from eating disorders to life-threatening cancers, giving her a firsthand look at how insurers make coverage decisions and the consequences when they favor profits over patients. This is the second episode in a two-part series.
