Background Briefing 03-12-2018 by Progressive Voices

America, we're in danger girl, of dying of the obvious. It's everywhere we look, obvious problems, with obvious solutions and nothing being done. It's driving you mad, making you sick, and robbing your quality of life. And why? Let's talk about it today at reallykarel.com and support the show at patreon.com/karel

Today's show is guest hosted by veteran progressive journalists, strategists and activists Cliff Schecter ("The Real McCain") and John Aravosis (The Economist, AMERICAblog News & LGBT).

During today's show, and twice per week via their "Unpresidented Podcast," they give you an unfiltered and humorous insider's look at the latest political news, and the action steps you need to get involved and RESIST.

Today they analyze tomorrow's special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district, Betsy DeVos's bumbling '60-Minutes' interview, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump's corruption, Putin/Russia's nerve agent attack in London, Steve Bannon, and more.

You can find the 'Unpresidented' Podcast at www.UnPresidentedPodcast.com and the premium version at www.Patreon.com/UnPresidentedPodcast. The Twitter handle for the podcast is @UnPresidentPod. Cliff's handle is @CliffSchecter and John's is @Aravosis.

Additionally, Cliff and John are now hosting the 'Leslie Marshall Show' each Monday from 3-4pm ET during January, February, and March while Mark Levine is in session as a Virginia State Delegate.

Melissa just celebrated her birthday and explains why she has never been bothered by her age and why other women shouldn't be either. McDonald's attempted a major promotion for International Women's Day last week, but it backfired. Melissa will explain the reason and tell you why Oxford University had to apologize for what happened on their campus on that same commemorative day.

n this episode: @TheCoffeeCast wrapup of the second week in March 2018. Tom and JM Bell in ROAST pitch better counter-messaging for Democrats.

Today Leslie is joined by Political Strategist, and good friend, Brad Bannon.

They analyze a Republican state representative from Florida, Elizabeth Porter, admonishing surviving Parkland students for being gun reform advocates, saying "Adults make the laws." They also discuss the new gun reform bill in Florida that Republican Governor Rick Scott signed into law today, breaking with the wishes of the NRA.

Brad runs Bannon Communications Research, a polling, message development and media firm which helps labor unions, progressive issue groups and Democratic candidates win public affairs and political campaigns.

He’s also a contributor to The Hill in Washington, D.C and to MyTiller.com, the social media site for politics.

Brad lectures in Political Science at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts.
