Today we come to chapter 7 in our study through the book of Revelation. This passage, like so many in this book, has a variety of viewpoints regarding its meaning. Revelation 6 brings us to the opening of the 7 seals of the scroll described in chapter 5. This passage is both vivid and well known, as it has inspired more than a few references in popular media. We will explore the events represented by the imagery, all the while remembering that is Christ who brings them to pass, and it is He who is sovereign over them. While they are a terror to the unredeemed, believers can rest assured that if they are to experience these tribulations, they will be for the good of those who love Christ, and therefor we have nothing to fear as we walk through the suffering our loving heavenly savior has prepared for us. This week we finish chapter 3 in our study of Revelation. This section concludes with the message to the church at Laodicea, a church for which Christ has no positive words. They believe they are self sufficient, without need and strong in their own resourcefulness. Jesus' words are given to jolt them out of complacency, as they have no fellowship with Him in their current state. Yet even so, Christ offers the encouragement that if they repent He will come to them and be with them. Let us also awaken out of complacency and cling to our Savior, giving thanks even in affliction and want. Today we continue our journey through the book of Revelation with the message to the church at Philadelphia. Though not a powerful church, this congregation held fast to the Word of Christ and did not deny Him even in the face of persecution. While the omnipresent and omnipotent power of Jesus is a terror to those who reject Him, it is a comfort to those who cry out to Him in faith. To them He opens the door of eternal life which will never be shut. To them He promises rewards and comfort in affliction. To them He promises protection from the much worse suffering that will befall the rebellious. Christ is risen- On this glorious Resurrection Sunday we celebrate the rising of our God and King Jesus Christ, the passover lamb slain for us to reconcile us to God when we had rebelled in sin against Him. Join us as we ponder not only the details surrounding this true historical event, but also the spiritual and eternal implications it has for the soul of every human being. Christ's rising proves He was exactly who He said He was- God in human flesh, come to pay the penalty justice requires for our wickedness and clothe us in His own righteousness. To ignore Him is to put your own soul in peril, rejecting the free gift of righteousness and eternal life He offers.
