Do you remember when you were a kid and mom would make you say thank you. Usually in a big way, and you wouldn't really care because you're a kid. But you do it anyways and go through the motions.

Today's prayer is based on psalm 50: God desires sincere thanks, trust and praise.

2 both low and high,

    rich and poor alike:

3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom;

    the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.

If we listen, the Lord will speak to us through his word.

God the Father has already layed out a path for us to follow, His word will light the way as He guides us through life.

The first line in this psalm is “Hear this all you people.”

This line is used a lot.

What are we hearing about?

Let’s read through the bible to find out.

Psalm 78:1 says: “My people, hear my teaching.”

So what we’re hearing, or in this case reading, is a teaching.

We’re being taught when we read the bible.

Psalm 50:7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you Israel; I am God, your God.”

To testify means to present evidence. 

Not only is God speaking to us, but God is presenting evidence against us.

But there’s more…

Psalm 81:8 “hear me my people and I will warn you.”

So this is our warning:

God is testifying against us.

But it doesn’t end there.

Isaiah 55:3 “Give ear and come to me, listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

Wow, so we got our warning because God wants us to live.

Plus he made a covenant (promise) that we will always have his faithful love.

We are to listen to the Lord so we can hear His teaching,

hear His warning about His testifying 

and about His agreement of faithful love to us.

The Lord our God has redeemed us.

He has rescued us by paying a ransom.

 

The world needs to hear this message from the bible.

And we need to understand his word.

It’s very clear that when we die, everything here will be left here.

We can’t take our money or other stuff with us.

But a ransom must be paid.

 

When you trust yourself and followers you will live in a tomb forever.

God buys us back from death, allowing us to live forever with Him.

 

We can’t pay our ransom because it’s too expensive.

God doesn’t want our money or earthly possessions.

And we don’t live longer because we have more.

 

God rescued us from death by paying a ransom.

The Lord has done a lot of work for us

And definitely deserves our praise.

 

He created this entire universe just for us.

The sun, the moon, the sky, animals, rain, plants and flowers.

All working together to make life for us possible.

There isn’t a single thing in this universe that God has not created.

 

He has decided that everything He created will be here forever.

The sun, moon, sky is the same sun, moon, sky that every generation before us has seen

And every generation after us will also see.

Since the beginning of creation until forever!

 

We should praise and honor our God.

The Lord sits above heaven, watching and controlling everything for his will.

Let’s give him honor.

To be blameless doesn’t mean that we are perfect and without sin.

We are all sinners, which is why we have Jesus Christ.

Christ is our savior.

To be blameless means to be innocent.

 

We’re innocent because we’re not lying about friends and neighbors.

They are our brothers in Christ.

 

We’re innocent because we got rid of our pride.

God has the last word in everything, so there's no point in trying to argue.

 

We’re innocent because we don’t look for approval in the wrong places.

We don’t look to get approval from the cool kids that spend the afternoon smoking on the corner.

 

We are looking for favor in the eyes of God, not favor in the eyes of man.

 

The Lord loves us like a Father.

We are sing praise to him and let him direct our life through hope and trust.

Those who praise Him are blessed and have favor in God’s eyes.

The first verse that pops out to me when I read this psalm:

“Trust in the Lord and do good;

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires in your heart.”

 

When we put our trust in God, we find rest.

Suddenly we’re not trying to fix everything and make our problems go away.

God is working for us,

even when it seems like everything is working against us

 

God is very loyal.

He doesn’t forget about us or toss us to the side.

God is constantly providing what we need as we need it.

 

In times of need, wait for the Lord to provide the outcome.

Wait patiently and without anxiety.

In the end, God will work everything out.

 

Trust in the Lord and wait.

God will not forsake his faithful ones.
