  • Cool Runnings: I'm Feeling Olympic Today!

Happy Winter Olympics, Void! We're checking in this week with a classic sports film about what we hope to see in international competitions: pride, power, and a bad mothah who don't take nothing from no one! We're talking about the Jamaican bobsled team in Cool Runnings, a fictional story based on the real 1988 debut of this team. We have Derice, the driver, Junior (rich kid) the first middle, Yul Brenner (not the actor) the second middle, and Sanka, the brakes (best push-car driver). Together they learn about ice, breath condensation, and the electric slide. Meanwhile, Brennan explains sport, Erin brings up skeleton a lot, and they both agree that John Candy is Zuko.

Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme! Plug it in, it's PODCAST TIME!!!!

  • Ever After: "Wings" by Di Vinci!!!!

Bonjour! Bienvenue à Renaissance France! (That means welcome to renaissance France in French!) (Also, no one speaks French in this movie except for "monsieur" and "madame"). We are discussing Ever After, a beautiful movie that flips the script on the classic fairytale trope way before its time. Danielle (or Daniella?) is a woman who don't need no man, and is more than willing to save the pouty prince in his castle. We get Leonardo di Vinci and his boat shoes playing the role of the fairy godmother, while the Baroness de Ghent (Anjelica Huston) SLAAAAYS as the evil step-mother. (I have been coaching Erin on Drag Queen terms) (Yeah, right!) We talk about so much from Henry XIII's divorces, Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, to the anti-Pope and the Byzantine Empire (it was still the Roman Empire). We don't know how else to say it; we love this movie and every message it brings with it. Women are smart and powerful, the men need to stop moping and get to work, and we really want that painting of Drew Barrymore because it is actually a work of art.

  • K-Pop Demon Hunters: OOOWAH!!!

Heels, nails, blade, mascara; we're ready for OUR napalm era! This week Erin and Brennan willingly, and with no hint of hesitation, give up their souls to the Saja Boys. We love our girls, obviously, but THEY'RE SO HAWT!!!! Could you kill Baby Saja or Abby? Didn't think so. We try our best to say "Gwi-ma," obsess over Derpie and Sassi, and gush over EJAE and all the amazing songs she co-wrote for this movie. We did divert more than a few times to discuss K-dramas, Japanese television programming (occasionally with explosives), and sleeping bags (***but make it FASHION!***). From gaming chatrooms erupting into Golden, to learning the Soda Pop dance, we've all fallen in love with this story. This movie establishes the moral of the millennial generation: be open with your friends, believe in each other, therapy is great, and kick ass while looking unapologetically fab.

The world WAS supposed to end in 2012, but thankfully we had Psy and Gangnam Style to seal the honmoon. Never Forget!

  • Blazing Saddles: Authentic Western Gibberish

This week Erin and Brennan find themselves in Rockridge watching one of the all time comedy greats Blazing Saddles. We discuss how the trope of the western is turned on its head while laughing pretty much non-stop.

I mean, this is a Mel Brooks film, so of course it has Medieval executioners in the Wild West, 4th wall breaking chaos that spills out into the streets of....Burbank. Plus QUICKSAND, a very dirty song sung completely off key, and did we mention the INVENTION of the candygram?!?!

  • Die Another Day: It's a STEALTH CAR!!!!!

Happy Holidays, Void! Well, this episode writes itself to be honest. It's James Bond in North Korea with hovercrafts, Face-Off technology, and the obligatory stealth vehicle. This time, it's an invisible Aston Martin in the snow! Really, we can count the good things on one hand, but where's the fun in that? Listen to us lament Rick Yune (hot Korean-American actor) being made not-hot, Halley Berry working as an agent of the NSA, and lasers. Seriously, did any of these people SEE AUSTIN POWERS?!?!?!?! TWO OF THOSE FILMS CAME OUT BEFORE THIS ONE!!! But let's be honest, we lose our minds over diamonds in Iceland, raw-dogging ice hotels, and MADONNA.

  • Erin and Brennan’s F1 Gossip Hour: What Were They Thinking?

Welcome back, Void! We're between holidays and you know what that means: cars that go vroom vroom in a circle and drama!!! Oo boy do we have the tea for you! (Disclaimer: Erin and Brennan are not professionals and have no idea what they're actually talking about.) We discuss Don Luis, new head of the Ferrari car family, the schadenfreude of the Red Bull leadership meltdown, and the coronation of dumbest-boy-in-all-the-land Lando Norris to World Champion! (Hey, at least it's not Max again!) From the hopes and dreams of the preseason to the crash back to reality by the summer break, we highlight the curse of the second Red Bull seat, how cute all the rookies are, and bash on Alpine and Aston Martin for making us laugh every time.

  • The Devil Wears Prada: Work/Life Balance is on Clearance

This week Erin and Brennan get the worst job that a million girls would DIE for: second assistant to Miranda Priestly. They deal with getting Michelin-quality steak in 15 minutes, eating a cube of cheese when they feel light headed, and generally giving up carbs because they have been fat-shamed by Stanley Tucci. We really agree that ALL of Andy's friends suck except for Doug (JUSTICE FOR CLOSETED-DOUG!!). I mean, Nate moans most of the movie, Lily thinks it's funny to try and get her friend fired, but Doug is there to be supportive and totally understands why she needs to go to Paris Fashion Week! (To get with Christian Thompson, pretty boy editor-manager-freelance-writer-dude. [Actually, we don't know what he does but he's hot so who cares]). At the end of the day, will Miranda slightly smile or purse her lips at us? We fear the latter.

  • Seven Samurai Part 2: Ok, Let's Talk Castles. . . .

Yes, this week is a double hitter and the second episode is all about castles. How they were made, what do they do, and how do they kill you? Why is this important? Because your home is your castle, and you need to defend it against crazy bandits with the Horns of Power (13th Warrior references by request). We have murderous grandmas, sad-dog Kikuchiyo, and Katsushiro making it to home base. (Queue Lonely Island's "I Just Had Sex") But to be honest, we agree that Seven Samurai is one of the greatest movies ever made and we enjoyed it so much we had no choice but to split this episode into two parts. Characters we grow to love deeply, action that still baffles the mind, and an amazing amount of humor to keep it light, you MUST see it.

  • Seven Samurai Part 1: Huh, Jidai Sounds like Jedi!

Welcome to the Sengoku Period in Japan where life is bad and there is violence EVERYWHERE!!! Bandits raid farming villages, samurai wandering without masters, and drunk rascals to push ALL the buttons. We recruit six samurai and one "in between" to defend the village from bandit raids. We have Kanbei the Obi-Wan, Katsushiro the Luke, Gorobei the rotund, Heihachi the joker, Shichiroji the lieutenant, Kyuzo the stone-faced, and Kikuchiyo the rabid dog who follows them around for miles and miles. Basically, he's Inosuke from Demon Slayers and therefore an automatic favorite in Erin's eyes. There's also girls disguised as boys that still look like girls, samurai frolicking in flowers, and Kikuchiyo STILL being a rabid dog!

  • Spaceballs: May the Schwartz Be With You!!!

This week we open Brennan's Birthday Month with incessant giggles and George Lucas' blessing. Using combing technology to track our heroes, Col. Sanders clucking orders, and inhaling cans of Perri-Air, we once again delve into the mind of Mel Brooks and have an absolute blast. Erin may be put off (Erin feels much more strongly about this than what Brennan wrote) by Pizza the Hut, but between Mega Maids and stern parking attendants, there's plenty else to get hooked on. Beneath it all, it's about capitalism and MERCHANDISING! Spaceballs the lunchbox! Spaceballs the toilet paper! SPACEBALLS THE FLAME-THROWER! But we are dying to know what Mongo's review of Rocky 5000 is.

We'll meet again next year for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
