TGIF Psych Waves! Today Dr. A wraps up her 5 part Tiktok series (available on Youtube next week) with a full podcast discussing how trauma can manifest in a fear of being seen. Have you ever felt like you prevent yourself from having needs just to please others, but cannot for the life of you figure out why you do it? Trauma may be the answer. Listen to her episode for an explanation of this phenomena and other trauma insights.
This week on Psych Waves I'd like to present an alternative to adding New Year's Resolutions, creating problem solving checklists, and the "If i do this, then xyx will happen and I'll finally be ______" type of thinking. The solution? Do LESS and lower your cognitive load! How does lowering your mental load allow you to increase your ability to meet the goals you want without adding more work? Listen to find out!
Dr. Anderson sits down with Dr. Rachel Faust, owner of Love and Light Wellness to discuss Internal Family Systems Therapy, Self Compassion, and healing from trauma with a dash of Polyvagal Theory. Haven't heard of some of these terms before? This is the perfect time to learn about these new age theories and concepts!
On this episode of Psych Waves, we have a VERY important, and serious, topic. Oftentimes in our society today, we discuss abuse prevention in terms of how we can better protect women: more legal penalties, more policing, and more access to self defense instruction or tools. However, today I want to present another angle as to how we end cycles of abuse: How we educate our men. Educating our men while they are still young tackles the problem of male dominated patterns of abuse at the source and from the ground up, as opposed to reacting to it after it's already happened. We as MOTHERS, grandmothers, aunties, neighbors and friends have the power to teach our men how women should be treated as human beings, and how they would wish to be treated themselves.
On this episode of Psych Waves, Dr. Anderson discusses all things concussions: How we get them (and it may be easier than you think, which = no bueno!), what happens in the brain when we get them, and finally an innovative treatment that can help the brain heal from a concussion.
Many of us often feel anxious about discussing the topic of suicide with our loved ones regardless of if it is ourselves or them we are worried about. That's why during Suicide Awareness Month, I wanted to make a podcast about breaking the taboo of discussing suicide. We will talk about how to ask your loved one if they are having thoughts of suicide, how to respond to either a yes or no, what follows for each answer, and much more!
We also have a 5 part mini series that breaks this podcast down into segments on Tiktok and Instagram @AndersonClinicCincy!
We have a VERY special interview episode out today! Dr. Anderson sits down with Leeann Eakins, a licensed social worker who has developed her own way to address trauma and PTSD: using martial arts. Join in as we interview Leeann Eakins and learn about how she uses martial arts in a therapeutic environment for people from all walks of life!
Welcome to another episode of Psych Waves! This is part 2 of 3 in our treatment series! In our first episode, we talked about barriers and stigma to getting treatment. Now, lets imagine you have surpassed those barriers and are ready to tackle your depression....but you have no idea where to start or what to do. Your primary doctor gives you a name, such as the Anderson Clinic, and a phone number. You call the number and they ask, "what services are you looking for" as if you already know. Sometimes, we don't know where to start, and that's ok! The primary goal of a consult is to get to know each other and establish a treatment plan. In this episode, we look at a Case Study of two similar, but not identical treatments for Treatment Resistant Depression: Ketamine versus Spravato. Join Dr. A as she describes the similarities and differences of each and how patient and doctor can work together to get you feeling better again!
In this new 3-part podcast series, we'll dive deep into the unanswered questions of the treatment process. The first episode is about how stigma and labels can prevent us from even taking the first step towards seeking treatment. The second episode will focus on what treatment can feel like, using Spravato (esketamine) and Ketamine for depression as a case study. Finally, we'll finish by addressing one of the biggest, and sometimes scariest, questions about treatment: what happens next once I actually start to feel better? Tune in for another series from Dr. Anderson!
