On this very special episode, I interview my dear friend and incredibly talented singer/songwriter Caroline Brooks aka BELLSAINT about her healing processes that helped her birth brave and powerful newest album: i used to be funny. We touch on themes of narcissistic abuse (both interpersonally and systemically) as well as religious trauma, and the healing and lifesaving power of art and creativity as a way of disrupting and challenging the debilitating shame dynamics these patterns tend to bring about.

Sarah is a fellow Psychotherapist in private practice as well as an incredibly skilled potter, who has grown her once humble side-hustle, Slow Life Pottery, into a thriving second business. On this episode, I interview the fun and fabulous Elizabeth Su about her amazing deck The Adventure Tarot and her decision to center Asian-American women in this project, working to actively dismantle the lack of representation in spiritual spaces that have so often centered the white experience. We discuss undoing patterns of codependency, encountering shadow figures in dreams, navigating neurodivergence, and her journey of embracing and celebrating her mixed racial heritage as a form of inner teen healing.
More from Elizabeth’s bio:
Elizabeth Su is the author and creator of The Adventure Tarot, a road trip-inspired deck about self-discovery, belonging, and celebrating Asian joy. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University where she researched burnout and perfectionism. Prior to that, she was busy hustling for her worth at a Silicon Valley start-up. Her work has been featured in, among others, the Los Angeles Times, POPSUGAR, and Bustle and centers around topics such as self-love, intersectionality, and the multifaceted nature of being human.

On this episode, Raven Robbins and I unpack the archetype of the Mother through the lens of both personal and collective experiences. We also discuss Jungian archetypes in a broader context and their significance on the esoteric path. We explore ritualized healing practices around creativity and reparenting the inner child, which can be incredibly potent at any life stage, and Raven describes her experiences during an extended “fasting” period away from media consumption.

On today’s new episode I got to interview Emily Weiner: visual Artist and fellow East Nashvillian, at her fabulous home studio! We discussed the distinctly Jungian and philosophical influence on her work, her creative process and career trajectory, along with her methods of incorporating both the personal and collective unconscious into her process — letting the layers of meaning unfold over time. Her dream she brought to discuss reflects the tension every artist must navigate between the institution and commerce around art vs. the authentic exploration needed to create truly resonant and enduring work. More from her bio:
Emily Weiner’s paintings consider the art canon through a feminist and Jungian lens. By reconfiguring symbols that have been recycled throughout the history of art, her work questions how archetypal images are shared across generations — and how familiar symbols might be reordered to generate new, collective understanding. Weiner approaches each layer of her painting intuitively, and by working in many layers of paint, finds synchronicity in combinations of colors, forms, and symbols. She creates multimedia frames to further demarcate spaces of suspended disbelief in each of her paintings.

On this episode, I interview Jungian life coach, dream worker, intuitive reader, and co-creator of the Dreaming Oracle: Melissa Grace! This is a deep-dive for my Jungian enthusiasts out there, as Melissa goes in-depth about her time-honored dream work techniques and the transformative power of the dream circle groups she runs regularly. We also discuss using oracle cards as a tool for building a relationship to the unconscious. I do an intro with a very special personal announcement, and discuss some basic Jungian concepts within the context of modern pop-psychology terms such as “shadow work.” Enjoy!

On this episode, I talk with Dr. Laura Anderson: therapist, trauma resolution and recovery coach, writer, educator, and creator, about her vast expertise in Religious Trauma. We shape the conversation around different facets of her newly published book: When Religion Hurts You: Healing From Religious Trauma and the Impact of High Control Religion.
This is a subject I have wanted to discuss in depth on the show for quite some time, as healing from religious trauma has been a significant aspect of my own mental health journey. Laura and I discuss some of the nuances of religious trauma (such as purity culture, fundamentalism, and abusive dynamics of power and control) through the lens of our own personal experiences, but also broaden the discussion into psychoeducation about trauma in general, and dismantling some of the more common misnomers. I hope this conversation is helpful and healing to anyone who can relate.

We are kicking off 2024 with an extra special episode welcoming the always-enchanting Angie McMahon to the show! Angie has just released her second full-length album Light, Dark, Light Again, and joins me to discuss the creative process and healing practices that birthed this spellbinding and transcendent creation. Her emphasis on the somatic and the subconscious truly embodies so much of the intention behind our show, and the result is a giddy and delightful conversation from two like-minded (albeit geographically-challenged), adoring friends. Hope you love it!
