  • 246 - The Battle Of 'Berta

Matthew Tkachuk is not making any friends in the Western Conference. This was on full display on Saturday night in Calgary as the Battle of Alberta, and the battle for a playoff spot reached a fever pitch.

Ryan, Geeta and P Mac hunker down in the palatial estate during Snowmageddon 2020 in Vancouver. They spend a great deal of time breaking down the Oilers/Flames game, the Tkachuk and Kassian ugliness and the suspension that followed. Dave skypes in to join the gang and talk about the New Jersey Devils firing Ray Shero midseason. After an anomaly of a playoff appearance in 2017/18 and some big name acquisitions, things never panned out the way the Devils hoped.

Finally the gang discuss the slumping and injured Toronto Maple Leafs, touch on Quinn Hughes making the All-Star Game and talk about the Canucks' polarizing road trip. They also answer some great listener questions!

  • 241 - Mitch Marner's Cautionary Tale

The whole hockey world is talking about the troublesome tales coming out about Mike Babcock's tenure as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ryan, P Mac, Geeta and a Skyped in Dave get together this week and get fired up discussing Mike Babcock's treatment of Mitch Marner during the 2016/17, Marner's rookie campaign. They discuss the controversial tactics Babcock used to motivate his players and Babcock's legacy in the league. Coaching the Detroit Red Wings to the 2008 Stanley Cup and Team Canada to two Olympic Gold Medals, will these allegations soon overshadow what was once a 'guaranteed hall of fame career'?

They also discuss the slowly simmering goaltending controversy in Vancouver. Dave campaigns for Canucks fans to cheerlead for Jacob Markstrom, who might be going a tad under appreciated in Vancouver this season.

They chat about the slumping Calgary Flames, a team who's goal production has dried up. All while a team three hours north of them, the Edmonton Oilers are scoring goals by the bucket load. And by Edmonton Oilers, we mean Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Finally, they discuss Kyle Turris being a regular healthy scratch for the Nashville Predators and criticize the NHL Department of Player Safety for the four game suspension handed down to St. Louis Blues' Robert Bortuzzo after his vicious cross check to Nashville's Viktor Arvidsson. A cross check so vicious, Arvidsson is set to miss four to six weeks of action.

  • 240 - Perfectly Adequate

Alex Edler scored a rather controversial goal at Rogers Arena on Saturday night while Avalanche player Matt Calvert laid on the ice bleeding from the head. Should it have been handled differently? We discuss.

Geeta, P Mac and Ryan gather this week to talk about a busy weekend in the National Hockey League. Dave Skypes in from Ottawa to touch on the strange turn of events in the Canucks/Avalanche game Saturday, the fallout and what could be changed going forward. They also discuss Adam Gaudette's success and the fact that Canucks' brass cannot send him back to the AHL with a performance like his.

They head east and talk about the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs. Just two regulation wins in their last 15 games, one can only began to wonder if head coach Mike Babcock has lost the room and if he'll be coming back early or at all on the Leafs' big road trip right now.

They discuss the strange Ilya Kovalchuk situation, the chances of him winding up in Vancouver and just why the grizzled vet is not playing regular minutes for the Los Angeles Kings.

Finally, the gang talks about the new old Vancouver Canucks skate jerseys, looks at an interesting aspect of success for the New York Islanders and answer some great listener questions!

  • 239 - Goodnight, Grapes

After 37 years hosting Coach's Corner, Sportsnet fired Don Cherry after some incredibly controversial comments on what became his last Coach's Corner segment.

Ryan, Geeta and P Mac gather once again at the palatial estate to discuss a very eventful weekend. They discuss Cherry's offensive comments, the reaction from fans and viewers and Cherry's lack of apology in the wake of the controversy.

They also talk about the Canucks' struggles. No longer the Cardiac Kids, the young Canucks team's goal production has dried up despite playing well as a team. What needs to be done to get out of this slump, and can the team take advantage of an injured western conference to make up as much ground as possible in their hunt for the postseason?

The gang also chats about some western conference coaches on the hot seat. Calgary's Bill Peters and Dallas' Jim Montgomery were in the news recently with some rather vocal critiques of their teams. Both squads are underachieving, but with a coaching change be the answer?

They also praise the New York Islanders' recent 10 game winning streak, their win by committee mentality and the incredible efforts of Barry Trotz.

Finally, the gang discusses the NHL Players Poll results, the Red Wings' point production and answer some great listener questions.
