Purple Insider - a Minnesota Vikings and NFL podcast

Matthew Coller answers Minnesota Vikings fans' questions, from whether Nick Mullens is like Case Keenum at all, how the Vikings might address the center position if they aren't happy at the end of camp, how the Vikings could be a contender by the end of the season and whether Daniel Carlson would have kicked the Vikings into being a better team over the last four years.

Matthew Coller gets together with Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune to peer into his crystal ball and see the future. Will the Vikings win their first two games? Are they different from when we started training camp? Will Kevin O'Connell and Kirk Cousins be best friends by mid season? Do we believe the Lions are a scary opponent?

Matthew Coller analyzes the Vikings' decision to send a conditional seventh-round pick for former 49er, Brown and Raider Nick Mullens. Is he the guy who could give the Vikings a chance if Kirk Cousins gets hurt? What do the numbers say about Mullens? Why didn't they make this move earlier? Plus fan questions regarding the Cousins-Zimmer relationship, the rookie class and who you'd protect in an expansion draft.

Matthew Coller gets together with Drew Magary of Defector to talk about how he enjoys the process of talking himself into the Vikings and how he's doing it this year -- hint, it starts with the offensive line. Drew also reflects on the brief period of Jim Harbaugh possibilities and why he wonders if the new leaders are going to be able to do everything they need to do in order to win in the future. Plus a couple fan questions on the backup QB, Mattison trade potential and first-year head coaches.

Matthew Coller and WCCO Radio's Paul Hodowanic talk about the Vikings 17-7 preseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers. A struggle for Kellen Mond, who can't be trusted as the backup now. Who didn't play might be as interesting as who did. Other players who stood out for good and bad reasons and what to do with the irrelevant preseason games around the NFL.

Matthew Coller is joined by Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated and Dane Mizutani of the Pioneer Press to talk about the Vikings' training camp, whether they need help on the defensive line, if Chris Reed's injury has forced the Vikings into starting Garrett Bradbury, whether it matters that Nick Bosa smoked Christian Darrisaw a few times in camp and if Sheldon Richardson or Ndamukong Suh are still an option.

Kyle Madson of 95.7 The Game and the Candlestick Chronicles podcast considers the time that Kyle Shanahan planned to make Kirk Cousins his quarterback, why the 49ers decided Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't good enough and what they think Trey Lance is going to do this year. Kyle dives into the timelines of Cousins and Garoppolo and why people similarly categorize the two quarterbacks. Plus he guesses the top receivers post-Terrell Owens in 49ers history and attempts a Vikings hot take.

Matthew Coller talks about how there's no reason for hot takes or social media rage over Sean Mannion or Kellen Mond's performance and what former Viking QB JT O'Sullivan had to say about his showing. Also we look at Pro Football Focus grades from the Minnesota Vikings' opening preseason game and what they say about the position battles and particular players and then answer questions about Ed Ingram draft takes, how to evaluate preseason games and more.
