I'm going all Brené Brown on you in this week's episode and talking about shame. Specifically financial shame.
Financial shame is costing you money every day in your business. It's keeping you stuck in your business because shame leads to inaction, buffering and continuing on the same path.
I hear from clients all the time about how ashamed or embarrassed they are by the state of their finances.
And I tell them there is nothing I haven't seen. And once we face it and have a plan, they all experience a feeling of relief. And wish they hadn't waited.
You can stay in shame and judgement and or you can decide to take action. Taking action is really about just leaning into the discomfort.

All businesses need bookkeeping. It's usually one of the first things business owners will outsource. Yet, 90% of all clients that come me have bookkeeping issues. They don't know what they don't know.
A good bookkeeper is a huge asset and a key part of your financial team. But it's an unregulated field and business owners often don't know what they don't know.
When clients come to me with profit and cash flow issues, I often see a direct link with the quality of their bookkeeping. You can't manage profit and cash flow effectively if you don't have books you can trust and rely on.
In this week's episode, I'm sharing the 5 bookkeeping mistakes I most often see businesses owners make, so you can avoid them.

This week's episode is a little different. Since I started my business, I found that a lot of business owners don't really know what a fractional CFO, what they do, or that they were even an option for smaller business.
So today, I'm letting you get to know me and giving you an inside look at what I do and how I help businesses. I'll talk about how my 30-year career brought me from supporting $200 million dollar business to helping small business owners make more money.

Cash flow is one of the biggest issues businesses, and my clients, face. 82% of businesses that fail, fail because of cash flow issues. It's the business killer.
A pattern of cash flow issues results in not being able to pay your bills or invest in your business. Not to mention the money anxiety that is always running in the background.
Here's a little secret, when a client brings me cash flow issues, I get a little excited.
Not because I'm happy they have cash flow issues, but because I know I can help them. Cash flow is one area of your business where small changes can have a big impact.
This week, I'm talking about the 5 mistakes I repeatedly see business owners with cash flow issues make. Because to fix the issue, you first need to know what the problem is.
I know that when I start peeling back the cover on their finances, if a client has cash flow issues, I'll likely find at least of 1 (and probably more) of these 5 mistakes.

I start this week's podcast episode with a sobering statistic: 82% of all new businesses that fail, fail because of cash flow. Read that again: 82%
Businesses with cash flows issues can't pay their bills. And if your business can't pay it's bills, it's on borrowed time.
Cash flow funds your operations as well as funds investments to grow your business and helps investors and lenders have confidence in your ability to meet your obligations.
That's why understanding and managing your cash flow is a core financial competency you need in your business. Cash flow is usually one of the top issues business owners bring to me.
And while cash flow isn't the same as profit, I find that they usually intertwined.
Tune into today's episode for a cash flow primer where you'll learn:

In today's episode of Purposeful Profit, I'm getting up on my soapbox. My Profit soapbox that it. As I work more and more with small business owners, I'm seeing an alarming issue that's causing a lot of undue hardship: a focus on revenue without a focus on profit.
Many business owners think the key to more money in their pocket is to grow their revenue. So they start chasing a big revenue number.
And really, it's no wonder. In the business coaching and consulting space, there's an extreme focus on revenue and very little on profit. And that's a problem.
Not only does more revenue not necessarily equal more profit, but done without intention, it can actually lower profit through outsized spending.
If you want to have a profitable business, you need to care give profit equal air time.

Did you know that we have upwards of 60,000 thoughts a day? And that 85% of them are unintentional. Much of what we think is true is not, it's just a thought or belief we have.
And when it comes to money and numbers, we often tell ourselves shitty stories.
That's right, your problems making profit start between your ears with the shitty (and usually untrue) stories you are telling yourself about money and numbers.
This episode is for you, if you are saying things to yourself like:
These are NOT true. They may feel true, but these are just stories you are telling yourself and they are not helping you make more profit.
Today, in part 3 of my series on the REAL profit equation, we are talking all about mindset. I talk about why the stories we tell ourselves matter so much, introduce a tool that I teach my clients and used to transform my own mindset, and teach you how you really can create any result you want.
Note: This it the 3rd part of a 4 part series, so I recommend you listen to episode 4 and episode 5 first.

If you want a sustainably profitable business, you can't ignore your financial foundation. It's what supports all the upper levels of your business. Without that foundation, your business won't have sustainable profit and might even crash down around you.
In this week's episode, I'll explain the 2 parts to financial foundation: know your numbers and core processes.
I'll break down what "know your numbers" really means and give you an easy framework for assessing where you are at in knowing your own numbers.
Then I'll explain about the core financial processes that all businesses need and many often ignore.
Have a listen and start building your financial foundations today.
Note: This is the 2nd part of a 4 part series on the REAL profit equation. I introduced this concept last week in episode 3 (so go back and listen to that first).
