We are nearing the end of our 1 Corinthians series with just 3 chapters left after the teaching today. In today’s episode we are studying 1 Corinthians chapter 13. How fitting it is right after Paul mentions Spiritual Gifts in chapter 12 and right before he goes into his teaching on tongues in chapter 14 that he would give us a chapter all about love - it’s so Paul!

We use several of these verses at weddings and other ceremonies today it’s universally known as the “love” chapter but Paul was not teaching this in the context of a wedding ceremony or a romantic love story. Paul was using this in his teaching to the Corinthian church because they were struggling to get along with each other.

Have you been there? Have you ever struggled to love somebody? In the day we live in today it can be very hard at times but it doesn’t take away the fact that scripture tells us above all spiritual gifts were given the greatest gift is the ability to love. To love like Jesus did and that should be the love we’re showing everyday! As Christians we are to love differently than the world loves because we have the spirit of God inside us. If we all loved like Jesus loved it would change the world! Let’s start striving to be the difference this world needs.

In today’s episode we’re diving into 1 Corinthians chapter 11. This chapter begins with a bold statement from Paul “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am Christ.” Wow that’s a very bold statement! Paul was so confident in the way he was living his life for the Lord that he proclaimed others to follow his lead. Is this a statement you would be able to make?

Next we discuss one of the most controversial topics in the bible, one that makes a lot of women cringe when they hear it. We discuss what these scriptures mean and how they apply today.

In today’s episode we are diving into chapter 10 covering how dangerous it is to be prideful. We see several times in scripture that God blesses the humble and destroys the prideful. We also debunk the misconceptions that surround verse 13 in this chapter. We often see this verse misquoted and mis-interpreted. God promises us he will provide a way out of our temptations but it’s up to us to heed his warnings.

We briefly mention communion that’s referenced in verses 14-22 and how it along with Baptism are the two ordinances of the church. We end this study with a verse we have referenced a couple times already in our 1 Corinthians study verse 23 which says all things are lawful for me but not all things are expedient.

One thing Paul did that we should all do within our Christian walk is to find common ground with other people. This doesn’t mean we change or compromise our beliefs but its getting to know something about someone so you can establish trust so that when you share the gospel they’ll be more receptive because you took the time to meet them where they are.

In today’s episode we are finally getting into the meat of 1 Corinthians, those specific sins we mentioned we would get to earlier in this series, well it’s time to dig into our first one. We’ll be the first to tell you these topics aren’t always easy but they must be taught and talked about.

This first sin is on purity and a specific sexual sin that was going on within the church. We discuss how the church was instructed to handle this situation and what our take is of rebuke within the church.

We also discuss how sin is correlated to leaven in this text and how you’re better off to throw out the old leaven and start again with a new lump. As only a little leaven or yeast is needed to make bread rise, a little bit of sin can consume your whole congregation.

This passage of scripture takes sin very seriously and concludes with specific instructions on what we must do if a fellow believer in Christ is wrapped up in sin. Have you ever heard of being “churched” doesn’t happen much these days but was often a term used in days prior to handle someone that was deep in sin within the church.
