Throughout the OT the focus is almost entirely on the nation of Israel. As a result of God’s choice of them, the Jews developed a belief that His will for them demanded that they remain aloof from all those outside of Judaism. Centuries of this made it necessary for the Lord to take drastic steps with the gospel beginning with a centurion named Cornelius. Standing between him and salvation was a massive wall of Jewish prejudice that needed to be torn down.

But these prophecies against other nations aren't just communicating general lessons about sin, they are part of Amos' strategy to convince Israel of her own guilt.

But all of the emphasis on physical and mental healing can cause us to lose sight of a much greater priority—spiritual healing. Immediately following their rescue through the Red Sea the nation of Israel faces a challenge that tests their faith. Sadly, they fail the test, but in the process God identifies Himself as their Healer.
