This episode contains adult content, but is critical for teenagers, parental discretion advised. Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback on the planet and has been outspoken about his Christian faith. However, a tweet during the Super Bowl by his now fiancé, Brittany Matthews, raised some red flags about their relationship and our current culture in general. Casual attitudes toward premarital sex and pregnancy creates a casual culture toward marriage, commitment, parenting, and legacy. Dr. Jonny compels pastors and parents to set a clear, strong, Biblical standard because before there can be a cultural revolution there needs to be a moral revolution!
The word “racist” is a sharp sword that our culture is currently swinging haphazardly and irresponsibly. This can be done from hurt and pain or sometimes from just not knowing what else to do. It may cause many to back away, but that shouldn’t be the goal. For real change to occur we need to draw people closer and begin to have real, effective conversations that bring healing to ourselves, our families and our culture. Dr. Jonny shares a personal experience from this week, where he had an opportunity to share, with honor, his perspective on racist rhetoric.
With the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine upon us, it has generated many concerns and questions. Dr. Jonny uses his medical expertise and experience to address many of his listener’s questions, and since it still may be months away for the general population to get vaccinated, it would be a great use of time to become informed as possible. He generated a top 10 list of claims and concerns so that his listeners can make an informed decision for themselves and their families.
Woke is a political term that originated in the United States, and it refers to a perceived awareness of issues that concern social justice. Being woke has transitioned in America from being socially aware to being socially offended. Our culture, rather than focusing on becoming less offended, has ineffectively and at times ridiculously, only focused on silencing the offensive. Dr. Jonny explains that living in a culture of feeling constantly offended leads to conflict, control and rationalized censorship. Alternatively, a Christian ambassador pursues truth, frees us from oppression, and lives un-offendable.
The term social lubricant is any food, beverage, or activity that stimulates social interactions or helps people feel more comfortable in social situations. Dr. Jonny shares his mission and vision for Pushback and the hope that this podcast can be a social lubricant. He desires that his listeners will feel socially comfortable engaging the culture that is currently dysfunctional and hurting. Because we represent a higher and superior way, we can to go confidently and calmly to set and shape the culture!
Many in this nation are feeling injustice or feeling unheard. This creates feelings of pain, anger and judgment. Jesus, however, flipped everything upside down and called for a higher way of living, where mercy triumphs over judgment. Dr. Jonny calls for one of the hardest things any Christian has to do…to forgive and show mercy. Mercy is not a passive word, it is not giving up, shutting up or cowering. Rather, mercy is a strategy, called the “law of liberty,” when enacted through honor, brings real change and healing to our culture.
This week there are the Georgia Senate run-off elections and congress voting to certify (or object to) the election results. This will not only be a critical week for politics, but for the culture and integrity of the United States. Dr. Jonny reviews what is at stake this week and calls for an investigation of the truth. It is OK to pushback, to be heard, and to be outraged until our critical questions and reasonable suspicions regarding this election are answered. Truth is not a partisan issue but a cultural issue. We, as Christian families, set and shape the culture so we need to fight for truth!
Many might have felt that 2020 was like getting a lump of coal in your Christmas stocking. There were plenty of concerns about the direction our culture was headed that required some pushback! Dr. Jonny explains the importance of not lumping all the issues of our culture into one big lump of coal, but rather dissect each topic to find the areas of agreement, compromise and outright rejection. He reviews our current cultural issues and examines the motive, means, and opportunity for each issue or governmental decision to determine what can be trusted or what should be questioned. We are the ambassadors of heaven, instead of rejecting government, we need to bring reformation!
2020 has been an interesting year to say the least and Dr. Jonny has covered some very important, and at times, heavy topics as we look to pushback and set the culture. However, this is Christmas week, so it is time to have a little fun! Family sets the culture and part of family culture is just having fun together and for the Claussens, that means games. Play along as Dr. Jonny invites his family to join him for Pushback Christmas fun: game show edition!
Dr. Jonny responds to many email messages regarding the Pushback podcast and especially the Covid-19 vaccination. While many feel they are healthy so they don’t need to take the vaccine, Dr. Jonny asserts that it is healthier to be immune than susceptible. As we prepare for this Christmas season, he briefly describes the power of the nativity and how Jesus became one of us in every way, so that He could redeem everyone of us in every way!
