Pushing the Pile: A CBS Sports NFL Podcast

Position battles are a Training Camp rite of passage. Even with an uncertain few weeks ahead for the NFL, we still think we can count on some intense battles across the league. On this episode, Cody Benjamin joins Will Brinson to break down the biggest ones as we he late July. The list is comprised of mostly quarterbacks, but Cody submits a surprise at #5 (15:00). Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert were picked high in the draft, but what are the chances they supplant the veterans in their respective locker rooms? The Patriots brought in Cam Newton, but could Jarrett Stidham still get a fair shot at the starting gig in New England (36:30)? And of course, the Bears are seemingly never settled at QB and that's no different this year. The one that wins the job might not be able to keep it however.

It's another mid-summer Monday Mailbag! Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech link up to answer listener questions. Will there be Superfriends auditions following the departure of Sean Wagner-McGough? One Pick Six fan has a suggestion! The Packers went 13-3 and made the NFC Championship last year, but aren't discussed among the top favorites entering 2020. Is that fair? Will, Ryan and John also discuss DeAndre Hopkins' outlook in Arizona, the best players and coaches to never win a Super Bowl and beer.

Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech link up to rank all 8 NFL divisions. The guys follow Breech's list from CBSSports.com. While there wasn't a ton of agreement on this podcast, it was pretty clear that the NFC East and AFC East are the two worst divisions in football. From there, there isn't all that much separation. The Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champs, but how far can they carry the AFC West? The Bucs got Tom Brady...will that bolster the NFC South? The top division is another consensus, but we're not going to give that away here...

A deadline is approaching! To preview the date (4 pm ET on 7/15) where teams must sign their franchise-tagged players to multi-year deals, Will Brinson welcomes former NFL agent Joel Corry to break it all down. How has this offseason affected potential deals and how will it affect what we see on Wednesday? Will and Joel analyze the likelihood of long-term contracts for Dak Prescott (7:00), Derrick Henry (16:30), Chris Jones (18:30) and a collection of other players on the tag. Plus, the guys dive into Patrick Mahomes' massive extension (28:00). Why did both sides agree to something so long? How much will the contract really dictate the market for others? Joel warns that we shouldn't expect similar deals for Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson. Listen to find out why!

Sean Wagner-McGough is no longer with us to discuss and honestly pick apart his list of the Top 10 coaches in the NFL, so we tapped fellow Superfriend John Breech to come up with his own rankings. Breech and host Will Brinson embrace the Doug Pederson vs. Sean McVay debate that our pal Sean started a few weeks ago, while also examining Mike Tomlin's placement and what it would take for Andy Reid to supplant Bill Belichick as the top coach in the league.
