Yesterday Statistics South Africa released the first quarter's unemployment figures. According to the narrow definition, the unemployment rate increased from 33.7% to 33.9%. This says something about the impact of loadshedding on the economy, but perhaps even more about the aftermath of the Covid pandemic.
