Whew! What a week.  You know, I knew being an independent, strong, feminine woman would mean I’d have to face a whole new set of challenges while living alone, but being an independent, strong, feminine would also mean I would be able to face fears, take risks, and settle into a new type of strong.  The type of strong that showcases vulnerability and is able to ask for help.

My Powerful Beings,

Are you reactionary? Do you quickly clap back?

Yeahhhhh….we’ve all been there. We’ve all sent that snarky reply without hesitation to a nasty text or comment. How did that work out for you?  Probably not as great as you’d hope, if at all.

Here’s the thing.  Your power lies in the pause.  The person who sends the disrespectful text is egging you on. They want you to instantly react in a grand way, so they can call you “crazy”.  DON’T ENGAGE.  Again, your power lies in the pause.

Don’t instantly react. Put down the phone. Walk away. Go talk to someone who helps you stay sane. Do anything but text back right away.  And after you’d had some time to decompress, go ahead and respond.  But respond on your time, not the baiter.

With a “I’m going to give them a piece of my mind...in due time” attitude,

My Overachievers and Perfectionists,

My brain has been struggling to find a routine and rhythm ever since we transitioned from a summer mindset back to a school mindset.  But I’m tired of feeling like I’m constantly dragging through my days, so I’ve come up with a plan.

In today’s podcast, I challenge you to complete these THREE “things” I plan to do daily to increase my overall presence and center my body and mind.  If we all do it together, we can hold one another accountable.  Who will be my accountability partner?

My candy wishers and rap battle beat makers,

Whew. This week was exhausting but GLORIOUS!

Who knew I had so many talented students in my midst?  On today’s podcast, I talk about my week recap which includes library police, intentionally hitting students with rockets for candy, and of course rapping to a sick beat because who doesn’t love an impromptu rap formulated from a paragraph constructed purely out of inspiration from five emojis?  Am I right?

My ducklings,

How many times have you seen or heard something that bothered you, but you didn’t say anything?  How many times have you witnessed an injustice, but you were too afraid to take action?

Nothing gets me more riled up than when I see someone mistreat another soul...especially if the recipient is one close to my heart. This weekend I had had enough and stood up for one of my ducklings.  (Remember, we don’t question the science.)

I spent four days this week with incoming 7th graders, and I noticed three trends.   My biggest takeaway of those four days was how the environment was thrilling. You could literally feel the excitement in the halls. (Well not literally, but you know what I’m trying to say.)

My Creative Warriors,

This past week, I tasked my children with creating a “Day of Fun”...a day which they design our entire agenda.  I first started Day of Fun with my children a few years back, and it is now a tradition we very much look forward to. The way it works is I tell the girls the day before that “Day of Fun” is the following day.  They then create a list of ALL the things they want to do in one day, and we tackle as many as possible.  It is an exhausting, but always memorable, day.
