My conscientious, curious listeners,

With the latest CDC update about mask wearers and vaccinations, it brings up lots of heightened emotions (which are often polarizing).  While some people may be excited about the opportunity, others will be hesitant and concerned.

Oh my sweet, would never harm a fly listeners,

This podcast is a classic “do what I say, not what I do” type of lesson. We all make mistakes; we all have our breaking points; we all deserve better than what we’re given at times. Look, even the Education Queen had to serve some time back in Junior/Senior High.

There’s always that classic “mean girl” (or Victor) in every situation. The boy who teases you. The girl who gangs up on you. The boy who trash talks you. The girl who invites her friends to bully you.  You cannot always avoid the Stacys or Victors. (I’m feeling this one out. Can we all agree that the Karens and Chads are the “I need to see a manager” type while the Stacys and Victors are the “mean girl/boy” type? I say yes.) Learning how to handle the Stacys and Victors takes some finesse; finesse the young Queen did not possess in her younger years.

So sit back, relax, and listen to the couple times your Queen got served. (One of them wasn’t my fault!!!)

Wow. I asked students "What are some hard issues facing teens today?" and you came through for me big time. Once the answers starting rolling in, I knew this topic was bigger than me, so I called in reinforcements. 

Susanne Maurer, a licensed professional therapist for 20+ years, joins me in this week's episode to discuss mindfulness exercises, anxiety, naming behaviors, social media pressures, positive and negative self talk, and how parents can help support teens today.  Trust me, you will want to bookmark, download, and save this episode.  So get out your favorite college ruled notebook (or the nearest piece of paper you can find), your erasable fine point pens (or writing utensil you found in the junk drawer), a drink (Earl Grey is my favorite), sit in a quiet place, and absorb the plethora of strategies you can use TODAY to help yourself, a friend, or family member.

We need to normalize people creating their own path in the world instead of judging them for taking a path that seems "wild", "irresponsible", or "wrong".
