It's hard out there for an MFA! On this episode of the "Queer 2 Queer Cast," Collin talks to Jake Blakeman (JakeBlakeman.com), an amazing actor and general awesome possum attending Brooklyn College who's raising funds for their school's acting showcase. This event is a crucial moment for these aspiring performers to be recognized and possibly secure a job or two. The majority of performers who bring rich art to our communities struggle to pay their bills on acting jobs alone, so any little bit you can give enables them to bring more of that magic we love. We hope you enjoy Jake's hot takes about an industry that is so important to our everyday laughter, suspense, and general feels. Please donate to their program using the link below and check out Jake's website to learn about his individual contributions to theatre and film.

Hey there friends!
Spider-Man, for producer Collin (@squidlegs), is up there with the greatest comic book characters of all time. He loved the first two Raimi films, and like many, was underwhelmed by the third entry in this universe.
Please watch along with him as he discusses the film and what he would have done differently. This is not an attempt to suggest that he could do better than our man, Sam, and we love him dearly. This is merely a musing on what was and could have been.
Message us on Instagram (@queer_2_queer) and let us know what you think of our commentaries or the films we discuss. What should we watch next?
There's a new hero dealing out a double-dose of justice... No, it's not Batman (well not in this instance)... No, it's not @squidlegs drying his dishes in a Bat Signal shirt on TikTok (@DingleBlatt).... It's not even one of the coolest new superheroes to hit the shelves, our absolutely hunky "El Peso Hero..." It's not EVEN a bird or a plane or a Drag Queen! It's Hector Rodriguez (@el_peso_hero) of Rio Bravo Comics LLC and one of the leaders of Texas Latino Comic Con!
Join the Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/elpesohero
Hector is helping Latinx content creators, influencing personalities, and artists share their stories this Saturday (October 22, 2022) from 11AM Central until 6PM Central at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas. No ticket required! Just come on by in your best costume (or alter-ego disguise ;-) and appreciate the exceptional work on display!
Assemble your #squadgoals crime-fighting team, and check out @TXLatinoComics too!
Q2Q is proud to partner with "Women in Film Dallas" and local filmmaker, Chaselyn Wade (@chaselynwade), for a very special episode about the safety of cis and trans women on Texas film sets and beyond. We're honored to be joined by team members Gail Cronauer (@gailcronauer), Tiffany Vollmer (@theogbulma), and Lisa Dalton (www.lisadalton.com), all of whom offer empowerment, promotion, and mentorship for those who are lucky enough to work with them. "Listen in" is not only the key to unlocking their insightful voices on this episode, but it's the action item we hope to leave you with once the episode concludes. Listen to the voices of people who don't identify as you do, and together we can build a better world. We think this is a good place to begin if you seek education about harassment, resources for safer productions, or recommended channels through which you can offer aid to those vulnerable artists working under the pressures of a profoundly imperfect system. Thank you for joining us!
Please support your local minority voices and DFW artists. One way to do that, and have a bit of fun in the process, is by attending the premiere of "Dr. Kim Hunter and the Apparition" at "Look Dine-In Cinemas" (10110 Technology Blvd. Dallas, TX 75220) on October 13 at 6pm Central. The film stars and was directed by Chaselyn Wade! Tickets can be purchased here: drkimpremiere.eventbrite.com
Please visit https://www.wifdallas.org/ and take a look at the many wonderful upcoming programs and events that these talented filmmakers are bringing to DFW. Tickets for the fast-approaching "Topaz Film Festival" are available on the front page of their website.
It's officially Pride Month TO-FREAKING-OUT-DAY! We can think of no better occasion to release an episode all about being proud to be queer. It was an honor and privilege to sit down with two people who really put in the work to help LGBTQ youth and beyond. Percy and Amanda, two key figures with "Real Live Connection," are championing many exciting events for the fast approaching "Teen Pride" celebration this upcoming weekend. On June 4th and 5th, there will be drag shows, interview panels, makeup tutorials, and so much more. This is a unique space where minors can find a safe-space connection that encourages building better connections, not only with others, but within themselves as well. You and I may take seeing someone as dynamite as Kennedy Davenport live for granted, but many uniquely queer spaces don't accept minors. "Teen Pride" is really about facilitating many aspects of queer life without the inclusion of alcohol. No matter how old you are, you'll likely learn a lot about gender and orientation expression if you join us for all the fun. This isn't Pride-Cola Zero either. Be prepared for a jaw-dropping spectacle, and tag us in all the memory-worthy photos you're likely to snap along the gay way. See you over the rainbow! Those golden pastures are for everyone!
*We apologize for the slight hum. Our staff was working with some new equipment, and we'll do better next time.* (Just pretend you're on a plane and going somewhere amazing!)

The young ones are alright! Actually, they're more than alright. They're incredible! Exemplifying all that is awesome when it comes to queer life for minors is my new friend Erick. He creates hilarious videos on TikTok and is unafraid to express his bold side, no matter who may object to his unabashed voice. It was inspiring to hear how someone so young could be so confident, and yet, this energetic influencer was up front about how hard it is to battle depression. People of all ages and orientations fight for their mental health on a daily basis, and its people like Erick who win this battle, not only for themselves, but for their struggling peers as well.
*Content warning* - we discuss dark elements of mental health, including self-harm. Please take care of yourself before you listen.
You're never too young to make a difference, and Erick has only begun his journey towards making a difference in the lgbtq community. If you haven't taken the opportunity to pause and reflect on what an inquisitive teenager has to say in a while, then I encourage you to do so right the heckie now!
I was so thankful to have spent some time getting to know this content creator from a different world. Get to know Erick's opinions and fierce flare by following him here:

You picked an awesome episode to dive into. Literally one of our favorite people and an important voice for unique expression in DFW stopped by the pod! Preston Light (@whatsapreston), a painter, bass player and podcast personality powerhouse, guested on this episode of the "Queer 2 Queer Cast" to tell you about how he sees the world. Whether it's the way he pulls the strings on his instruments or the way he applies paint to a canvas, this gentleman calls upon what inspires him most to create those "something specials" which are unmarred by any pressures to follow a trend. We hope that any artists listening will be inspired by this studly baritone to take the path less traveled, connect with fellow artists, and stop apologizing for what makes their vision "weird." Download, subscribe, and get a little stranger with us! Your inner-freak may just be the secret sauce of your success.

In case you didn't know, the "first act" of our Q2Q Film Festival is a live event featuring many of the most talented and hilarious lgbtq folks in Dallas and beyond. Many of them do comedy, and one such chuckle box of a unicorn is with me today, Stefan Newman of Queer Factor acclaim. And speaking of this under the rainbow event, it's this St. Patrick's Gay at 9PM Central, so the golden pot hasn't been emptied... Unless you're listening to this after the show already debuted, that is.
No worries though! Luckily for you, Stefan is a performer booking more and more gigs. He's a comedian, improv guru, professional "reader," and keeper of secrets. The only way you'll find out if he reveals any is to download this episode now. Comedy takes real strength, and this sweet peach doesn't bruise easily. One thing that comes across from Stefan is how confident he is, and I was inspired to work on a sitcom outline after our conversation wrapped. I hope to see more from Stefan very soon, as he's producing, hosting, and starring in many comedy shows around DFW. Here are some places you can see him do his thang!
Here are his upcoming improv shows at the Dallas Comedy Club:
Wednesday 3/16 8pm: Homeowner's Dissociation
Wednesday 3/23 8pm: Club Teams Mix Up
Wednesday 3/30 7pm: Homeowner's Dissociation
Friday April 15th: Hot Dish
Friday April 29th: Hot Dish
Dork Horse (short-form audience interactive)- Every Saturday at 9pm
And every 2nd Saturday at Stomping Ground Comedy he'll be in the sketch comedy show SNL: Sassy Night Laugh.

From the HML podcast episode description:
We don't believe in the glorification of murderers. We do believe in the empowerment of queers who love TV and film. (To clarify: in regards to the stuff about "You," we are KIDDING.)
Hi there! Our editor got a blowout on an open highway (nobody was injured) and has been recovering. That's why this episode is a day late, and we do apologize. Speaking of our editor, Collin Miller (@squidlegs) is on the pod this time around. He talks to the boys all about the upcoming "Queer 2 Queer" Film Festival on November 20th. Live events start in the Margo Jones Theatre at 2pm and the films themselves will premiere at 6pm. The films will be available online as of November 21st and will stream until November 27th, but if you can come visit us in person, then please do so. Tyler and Andy are hosting, so you know it'll be a good time.

Thanks, first of all, for downloading our inaugural "Queer 2 Queer Cast" episode. I was privileged enough to experience the soothing soul of Brittany Devon, a multi-talented queer actress who proudly goes by they/she pronouns. We talk about "Total Catch," the short film (directed by Sarah Clark) they starred in at our initial "Queer 2 Queer Film Festival," and gab about which roles are generally, genuinely, actually intriguing to non-binary performers. I couldn't have asked for a more engaging first guest. I'm looking forward to one day sharing a tree star with them while playing with turtles by the pond. Check out Britt's website: https://brittanydevon.com/ and be sure to watch "Total Catch" on our platform once website construction is finished.
