Today, we are joined by Lori Thorp, director of Rehabilitation & Patient Services with Eskenazi Health. She started at Eskenazi in 2001. Lori and her team are heavily involved with recovering COVID-19 patients in physical, occupational and speech therapy. Many on her staff were working 12-hour shifts to match with nurses they work with to better serve COVID-19 patients. Things have stabilized and they are back to normal schedules.

Today, we are joined by Thrasher Carmichael, who works as the manager of Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek. He’s been dealing with COVID-19 in a variety of ways, including seeing some of his staff be redeployed to Eskenazi Hospital to deal with COVID-19 patients there.

Today, we are joined by Philip Campbell, project coordinator for the Eskenazi Health Project Point program, which is small a team of peer recovery coaches that work in the emergency department that provide services for patients who overdose on opioids. One of the effects of COVID-19 is little to no activity in hospital emergency departments during the main quarantine period, yet by the end of April there was a major spike in overdoses. Patients said the stress from COVID had made them start using again and many are using drugs they don’t normally use. Some reported fear of COVID has kept them from seeking help and they refuse to go to the hospital. Philip and his team are there to help those patients in many ways.
