  • How do you know your goals are actually your goals?
Have you ever achieved a "goal" only to realized it wasn't really something you wanted? Or maybe you're starting to realize that your life feels unfulfilling. Would you know if what you're doing day to day isn't taking you in the direction of what YOU actually want?

Listen in as I chat with Rosie Miller, Karen Loomis and Simon Coles to get their thoughts on how you know if your goals are yours or someone else's.

  • The downside of having been a competitive athlete
I asked three former competitive athletes to join me in a conversation about something very few people talk about - how having been an athlete has been BAD for their success.

Listen in as James Lee (#fencing), Kristin Bainger (#equestrian), Marie Wright (#swimming) and I (#BeachVolleyball) share our experience in this timely conversation. (Note: this was recorded before the 2021 Olympics started)

  • What causes overwhelm and what to do about it
Sometimes you can have a lot going on and manage it just fine. Other times you aren't as busy but everything feels out of control. In psychology we talk about overwhelm being caused by being held accountable/responsible without having the authority/ability to do whatever it is.

Listen in as Kristin Bainger, James Lee, Rowley Maggs and I share what overwhelms us, why it happens and how we deal with it.

  • Purposefully learn from mistakes, Convo 2
Does learning from a mistake mean you need to label it a mistake? If you end up with a similar "wrong" outcome, did you not learn? If you are anything like me, you've had lots of opportunities to make the "same" mistake a different way.

This week I posed the same question to two different groups of experts (watch the first one here: https://youtu.be/zSxIko640YY) . It was interesting to see how the conversations differed.

In this second iteration I was joined by Tim Hawkes, Sara Oblak Speicher, and Rick Alcantara,

How do you purposefully learn from your mistakes?

  • You have a strong recommendation and someone vehemently disagrees - then what?
When you have done all your research and have all your facts lined up it can be a shock when someone pushes back or shuts you down in a meeting. How you might handle it depends on if the person is a peer or someone in power.

Listen in as James Blair, Bill Lindquist, Tim Hawkes and I talk about our ideas and best practices for handling the situation professionally.

  • How do you recover from a mistake?
Some mistakes are small and easy to brush off. Others are so big they throw your mind into panic. If you don't have a plan for what to do when a mistake like that happens, you WILL make poor choices.

Listen in as Kristin Bainger, Tim Hawkes, Wayne Buckhanan and I talk about the right and wrong way to recover from a mistake. We got a little silly at the end, but when your brain goes into panic mode, even silly things seem reasonable.

  • Can you have good judgement without being judgemental?
This was a tough one! Humans have to be able to decide positive/negative. Evaluation is a necessary part of life. Does it become judgemental when we add emotion about our choice?

Kristin Bainger (Germaine Life), Marie Wright (Bold Bean Coaching), James Lee (StratFI) and I (Champion Performance Development) grappled with how we can be discerning but not judgemental.

  • What to expect in the first 30-days when you hire a marketer

It might feel like they are dilly-dallying around but a good marketer is going to take the time to understand your business and where you are before they start asking you to throw money at ads, PR, websites, print design or anything else.

Listen in as I talk to Karen Loomis, Rick Alcantara, and Charles Lee Collins about what to expect from the first 30 days of a marketing relationship. At the 5:36 mark I ask a tough question and end up having to push to get an answer. The best "answer" (I think) is what Karen said when both she and Rick answered that the same time, "If nothing is happening, it's not good."

  • How to market yourself on a budget
I expected this conversation to be tips to get bang for your buck. But it turned out to be SO much more useful than that. These three experts talked about what to do BEFORE you spend your first cent on marketing.

Listen in as Rick Alcantara, Karen Loomis and Charles Lee Collins share how we (people who use marketing services) can show up better prepared to take advantage of what marketers have to offer.
