  • How will we return to the office?
Will working from home continue to be a thing? Will businesses require employees to come back? Will employees come back? Pandemic restrictions are being lifted. But what does that mean for the future of work? Will we forever have before/after the pandemic? How will the realities of 2020 change your work going forward?

Listen in as Simon Coles, Rick Alcantara, Christine Trumbull and I discuss what appears to be a divide right down generational lines.

  • Plateau purgatory - how to keep moving forward when you feel stuck.
Are plateaus always bad? How do you make the best use of them? Can you springboard from them? How do you even know when you're on one? Maybe it's actually the top of the mountain. How to keep moving forward when you don't feel like you're making progress.

Listen in as Kristin Bainger, James (Jim) Lee, Eddie Maguire and I take the climb to understanding plateaus and share some of our experience with them.

  • Become brave enough to suck at something new
I never learned to play golf because I was too embarrassed to practice in public (I went to a driving range once and tried to hit exactly one ball). But being willing to suck at something new is what keeps us current. Imagine if you were never willing to learn a new app or new software. How would that work out for you?

Listen in as Rowley Maggs, Wayne Buckhanan and I talk about new things we've tried, how they turned out and how we have become better are trying new things, even if we have no idea what we are doing.

  • Can you be proud and humble at the same time?
There is a dichotomy between pride and humility. Too much pride is arrogance. Self sabotage and self doubt often parade as being humble. Where is the sweet spot? Is it possible to be humble enough to not be seen as arrogant AND proud enough of your accomplishments to shout them from the rooftops?

Listen in as Karina Hulstrom, Marie Wright, Steve Thomson and I grapple with this topic and share a little bit about how we have been too far on either side of that line.

  • How to create something positive out of crisis.
Can you get the benefits of a crisis without the crisis part?

A crisis by definition is bad. But that doesn't mean that only bad things have to come out of it. As it is said, necessity is the mother of all invention. How do you take a "bad" situation and find the good bits, create innovation, come out of it better? Listen in as Steve Thomson, Karina Hulstrom, Tim Hawkes and I talk about the positives we have seen come out of Covid and how to get the benefits of a crisis without the crisis part.

  • Presenteeism - What causes it and what can leaders do about it?
Physically showing up for work but not actually doing anything. Also called "Phoning it in." Listen in as Tim Hawkes, Rick Alcantara, Robert People and I try to untangle if people who do it are just slackers or if there is something more nuanced going on that leaders can do something about.

  • What makes something interesting?
Is it only curiosity? Is there a formula that can make anything interesting? Could we use it to help people engage in "boring" work? The topic is too broad for a single 10 minute conversation but Wayne Buckhanan and James Lee where kind enough to humor me and talk about the abstract idea. Take a listen. I'd love to hear what you think makes something interesting.

  • Why are lies so hurtful?
This conversation came on the heels of the How to Spot a Liar (https://youtu.be/ZjURMhIys7M). Is allowing yourself to be lied to a personal failing? Should you feel guilty about believing a lie or not being able to spot a liar? If you take responsibility for believing a lie, does that make you easy to gaslight?

Listen in as Kristin Bainger, Wayne Buckhanan, Rowley Maggs and I try to tease apart the murky emotional space between expectation, lies and honesty.

  • How do you spot a liar?
Do you trust everyone until they prove themselves untrustworthy? Do you believe everyone is lying unless there is evidence otherwise? Maybe a combination of both depending on the person or circumstance.

Listen in as Rowley Maggs, Kristin Bainger, Wayne Buckhanan and I wade into the murky waters of honesty. Do you agree or disagree with us? How do you approach it?

  • How do you tell if someone has integrity?
This conversation came on the back of the "What is integrity" conversation (you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/3M0E16wAE7g ). As hard as it was to define integrity, it was even more challenging to pinpoint how to tell if someone has it. It seems easier to notice when they don't. What do you think? How do you know if someone has integrity? Can it be lost and regained?

Listen in as Tim Hawkes, Sara Oblak Speicher, James Lee and I try to put words to this abstract topic
