I need to begin by stating how much I hate all the IQ questions on Quora, and I very seldom touch them, because I don’t really believe that the IQ test measures anything relevant, and also I hate all the implicit snobbery that I find in the questions.

But this one hits a nerve with me.

I am not going to tell you how high my IQ was measured as a child. I will tell you that the number more than qualifies me to answer this question.

AND THIS QUESTION IS BULLSHIT.

Talking to a human being is talking to a human being.

Unless you are talking to someone who is severely impaired, talking to a person of any measured intelligence level is very little different from talking to a person who is very bright. Some people have a real spark, and those people are lots of fun to talk to, but everybody can show a spark when you are talking about something that they are excited about.

So… no.

Undue concern regarding your ranking amongst geniuses is an unworthy preoccupation. It's an inward-looking, utterly theoretical concern that's extremely unlikely to lead to any tangible value for yourself or anyone else. True or false,  it simply does not merit the attention you're giving it. 

Also,  has it not occurred to you that anyone actually qualified to provide the affirmation you seem to be seeking would need to be beyond your own level of genius to an extent that would compromise the value of that affirmation ?

In short,  I humbly urge you to seek out a more worthy preoccupation - one that has some hope of bringing real benefits - both to yourself and the rest of us.

• Delete all of your social accounts*. Trust me, you need this.
• Read in the particular field you want to improve yourself. From your speech to the Avogadro's number and from linguistics to psychology, read the works of experts. You need to develop a perspective.
• Reach out. I think the best way to discover yourself is to interact with others. The more diversity your surrounding people, the more you will learn.
• Write. This is not only about how your day went, but also about what you have learnt that day. I have a note book where I basically write whatever I have learnt either from here or elsewhere. Why? Because you know you have learnt something when you are able to explain it.
• Have a partner. Not that kind. Just find someone who has same interests as yours. For eg: my best friend is always interested in learning something new. So every day, during lunch, I tell her about whatever I have found the previous day that amazed me -even some answers that I have read here- and she does the same. Remember great minds share ideas or something like that.

*Here by social accounts, I mean the kind that has negative aspect in your lives; either it be Facebook or Twitter or whatever. Because obviously Quora, too, is a social platform.

6. Better/Faster. Look for ways of improving repetitive tasks (automation, outsourcing and delegation).
7. Processes. That can run without your attention (automate).

How do successful people read?A major part of the answers here on Quora include telling people to read certain books. Should I be analyzing every book I read in depth, taking notes on chapters like in high school? It seems overwhelming to have to do this for all the books that pertain to my interests. Do I just do one read-through and try to retain as much information as possible?  That's the fastest way but it doesn't feel as helpful. Let’s start off by saying that an average person only retains 2-3% of what they learn in books or school.

Now, I don’t know if ‘successful’ would be the best adjective but I agree the most ‘productive’ people (the ones that you may’ve heard read a book a day) do this:

• Skip to whatever is interesting to them: You’re not at school, you don’t need to read or memorize something that’s irrelevant to you.
• Take notes: I always take notes or if no notebook is at hand I underline the book, I find information that is interesting or of value to me and I do a summary, whenever I forget about something I go to my notes instead of reading the whole book again.
• Look for the book summary online: Now this may look like a lazy move but if you are as limited in time as I am and as hungry for knowledge you will consider this, when you do this you notice that the useless chit chat is left out of the equation.

I’m going to tell you a secret I discovered some time ago that is so simple and basic and obvious that I missed it for years.

A lot of what we get in life rests on our ability to ask the right question.

A precise, targeted question is more likely to deliver what I really want to know.

If my crush was staring at me, why he was staring would be a secondary question.

What is it that I’d really want to know?

What I would want to know is if he had a crush on me too.

Once I identified the right question, I would definitely walk over to him and say “I like you. Do you like me too?”
