Then we were joined by Save our Trains spokesperson Dr Paul Callister to talk about the history and future of inter-regional passenger rail in Aotearoa following the announcement of a government inquiry by the Transport and Infrastructure Committee into the matter. Dr Peter Grace, University of Otago Politics lecturer, joined to discuss New Zealand’s aid efforts for Ukraine in the ongoing Russian invasion. A University of Otago Oral Health Clinic held over the last month provided free, life changing dental care to over 100 people in need. Organiser Dr Jaime Marra from the University of Otago Dental School told R1News that while they were happy with the work they’d done, its only a bandaid on a much bigger issue.

While they make for good graduation photos, the reality of working in the University of Otago's heritage buildings is far from ideal, with cold, draughty offices plaguing the academics and PhD students that occupy them, leading to what some have classed as unsafe working conditions.
