A recent approval by the Department of Conservation to allow the removal of kororā (little penguins) for the construction of the controversial Kennedy Point Marina has gone to judicial review by the High Court. For the first time, Smokefree Day has been expanded into Smokefree May, to encourage New Zealanders to kick smoking ahead of World Smokefree Day on May 31st and eventually Smokefree 2025. The SPOTS Study is looking to influence blood donation policies in Aotearoa in order to end antiquated rulings that gay and bisexual men (amongst other queer/associated people) can’t donate blood. The Study also hopes to increase knowledge of HIV and HIV prevention.

‘Prevent the spread’ is a programme protecting New Zealand ecosystems from the wilding pine which has become pest species invading many areas acrossthe country. New Zealand wilding conifer group have put strategies in place inorder to contain the spread by 2030.

Liam Hoffman Wormporium leader on Wormporium/Pōpopo and sustainability efforts around campuses in Ōtepoti

Wormporium/Pōpopo is a worm farm run at the Otago Polytechnic. It takes in around 200kgs of waste from Polytech’s halls, cafes, and departments daily to process organic waste in a sustainable way. Liam talks about how students can get involved, from dropping off their flats waste to volunteering at the worm farm itself.
