When I started my #research career, I was profoundly naïve in how difficult it actually was.
The amount of #rejection that you receive is unbelievably high. The rejection rate is almost at 95% it’s some of the good journals. You believe that those people that are being rejected are not good enough when you start.
You don’t realize is that they’ve worked just as hard and are as intelligent as you.
The amount of pain that you feel with each one of those rejections is very real, and the game is not about how successful you can be but how to manage the pain of those #rejections.
I was also profoundly naïve in believing the number of opportunities that you have outside #academia. When I started, some folks did look at me and asked me how serious I actually was to do research, and I took that as an insult.
However, what you don’t realize is that they’re going through the same struggles and the humor only looking out for you.
Rejection in the career is real, manage that rejection is best as he possibly can.
Don’t celebrate the wins, make sure you’re healthy during the losses.
