  • The World Is Going To Hell… Actually We Are Blessed.
Many moments you wake up, and you have a very negative view of the world.
I want you to remind yourself, and just how fortunate that we actually are.
Destitute #poverty has been on the decline for a long time, and more and more people are getting access to water around the world.
Many of us are getting access to technologies and education that we wouldn’t of had access to even a few decades ago.
Despite the fact that at any given time, it feels like the world is falling apart, remind yourself:
“I’m just how fortunate we are to be living in this messed up place called Earth.”

  • Fragile Nature Of Data: Let’s Just Be Honest
Most people do not understand the #fragile nature of data. I often don’t think it’s on the data analyst or author’s side that we need to worry about.
We need to be more concerned about how editors, reviewers, and the general public understand data.
I am more surprised by “perfect results” than messy results.
    Perfect rarely—if ever—happens.
We need to get people away from thinking about perfect results and get people interested in “honest results.”

  • Empowering Scientists: Lottery-based Funding System! | Karim Lakhani | Harvard Business Professsor
Two distinguished scholars, Dr. David Maslach and Professor Karim Lakhani, engage in a dynamic conversation about innovation, science, and mentorship.
Maslach introduces his R3ciprocity Project, aimed at revolutionizing scientific collaboration through a peer-to-peer sharing model. Lakhani, a renowned Harvard Business School professor, delves into his research on the science of science, exploring how communities collaborate and compete in scientific endeavors.
Their discussion uncovers insights into biases in resource allocation, the importance of mentorship, and the need for democratizing opportunities in academia. Lakhani advocates for a lottery-based funding system to encourage more diverse research avenues.
Reflecting on their personal journeys, Maslach and Lakhani emphasize the value of mentorship and the joy of discovering new ideas. They highlight the importance of integrating diverse interests to foster innovation and address complex societal challenges.
Ultimately, their conversation inspires viewers to embrace curiosity, challenge conventional wisdom, and pursue innovative pathways in their academic and professional endeavors.

  • Many Days You Are Not Going To Feel Good
Many days you’re not going to feel good, and you can’t change those days and can’t change your environment that makes you feel like that very quickly.
What you can do is pause, detach, and get back up again.
    It’s one step every day.
    Nothing else.
    No one is coming.
    It’s on YOU.
Take a bit of a pause, grab a coffee, and get going one more day.
Today might be a bit better.

  • Are You Serious? Are You Serious About Research?
“Are you serious? Are you serious about #research?”
This question is seared into my brain, and still rings in my ears.
I remember one of my advisors, asking me if “I was serious.”
The truth is, I didn’t really understand what he meant, but
    I said yes.
Doing research is a lifelong commitment, and it’s almost a religious affair.
I can almost always spot people that are not taking the religion seriously, and they view it more as a game, or a way to advance their career.
When you’re serious, you’re more willing to put up with being an outsider for a long time.
You will realize that you will be discounted, and you will feel like a #failure for longer than you wish.
If you’re interested in doing research, ask yourself, are you serious?
Stop playing around, and get to work.
If you can prove yourself that you can do something for a few months, that is just grinding work, you’re just proving that you’re “playing around.”
If you can do grinding work for decades, then maybe I can consider you that you are serious.
    Until then, meh…
    This kid is not serious.

  • Have Patience And Slow Down Your Pace
We need more people telling others to have patience, be nice, and don’t take #shortcuts.
Most role models today are focused on doing things quickly, cheaply, and trying to screw over other people.
    Let’s reverse this trend.
Encourage someone to slow down and take the difficult path of doing something right.
    Have patience! Treat others right!

  • Puppy Bowl: Genius Marketing
The puppy bowl is absolute genius, marketing. They took a channel during an event that would have had poor ratings, and perhaps turned it into the most important viewing session of the channel of the year.
Kudos to all of the people that invent puppy bowls and shark weeks. They turn insignificant things into cultural phenomenons.

  • Communicate Your Message In A Sideways Way
Do not communicate your message directly! No one cares about you.
I have repeatedly learned about the importance of what I call “sideways communication.”
Directly presenting a message often results in limited #engagement. No one cares!
However, embedding the message within a context that holds significant value for the audience can lead to greater #receptivity.
This strategy involves understanding and addressing the specific emotional states or needs of the target audience.
By focusing on alleviating or amplifying these feelings, the core message is conveyed more subtly, yet effectively.
This approach not only enhances message reception but also facilitates a deeper connection with the audience.
Spend time thinking about them and not you.
