If you selected a Mount Rushmore of MSU Athletics' greatest Racers, Jim Freeman would be on it. Arriving to compete for Coach Bill Fergerson in the fall of 1964 from Neptune, N.J., Freeman blazed a trail that took him into the top-10 in the world in the 100-yard dash. Freeman knew what was at stake in the turbulent 60's as he ran with fierce determination on the track and with grace and dignity off it.

Murray State's Jay Nimmo became the individual champion at the Hoosier Collegiate in Bloomington. He beat an outstanding field of 78 players and tamed the PFAU Course with rounds of 70-72-69=211, which made for a 1-shot win. Also today, an update on MSU Athletics including a record-breaking weekend for 800M specialist Kayla Bell.

Among the big news this week in Racer Athletics is the team title won by the MSU women's golf team at the Jan Weaver Invitational. Payton Carter also became the Racers' first individual champion since 2017. Mike Cherry was the quarterback of MSU's greatest era of football in 1995 and 1996. With Cherry leading the way, the Racers had two undefeated OVC championships for Coach Houston Nutt. Cherry speaks about what it was like to play for Coach Nutt and two key wins over Middle Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky that defined these seasons.
