Ratchel Faturoti is a British-Nigerian author, editor, screenwriter and poet. She believes it’s important for readers to see themselves represented well in stories.  Her first YA novel, Sade and her Shadow Beasts was published in 2022.

Her second novel, Finding Folkshore, will be published on 6 April 2023. 

When 16-year old Fola, struggling to deal with her brother’s cancer diagnosis and impending surgery, follows a motley crew along the Victoria Line and past its final Brixton stop, she discovers Folkshore, a mystical land where all is not as it seems.

Between navigating talking animals, mythical Shriekers and a thunderstorm that leaves her trapped in Folkshore, she discovers a nefarious gentrification plot by the Assembly, a plan that is enforced by pugnacious police pigs.

Fola quickly discovers that the only way out is through, and finds herself working to save Folkshore while still desperately trying to get back home to be by her brother’s side.

If she fails, the community she’s come to love could be destroyed forever and she may never find her way home.
