Wits University spokesperson Shirona Patel has confirmed that student leader Shaeera Kalla was shot multiple times with rubber bullets and that she had been admitted to hospital. Several other students were also injured when they clashed with police while disrupting exams at the university's West Campus. Meanwhile, the South African Police Services have issued a statement concerning the matter. National police spokeswoman Brigadier Sally de Beer, says they are looking into the matter of an alleged shooting and any police officer found to have contravened the law will be dealt with accordingly. The Minister of Police has written a letter to Suspended IPID Head, Robert McBride, informing him that their work relationship is "irretrievably broken". In his statement, the minister further advised McBride to seek clarity from the Speaker of the National Assembly on where he needs to report for duty. McBride is due to report to duty today, after the Police's Portfolio Committee in Parliament did not proceed with plans to take disciplinary action against him. Hundreds of Mozambican nationals gathered at the heroes square in the country's capital city Maputo for the 30th commemoration of the death of president Samora Machel. President Machel and other officials were returning from a summit in Zambia when their plane crashed at Mbuzini village near the border of Mozambique and Swaziland south east of Mpumalanga. South Africa is to use it's position in the International Atomic Energy Agency to advance the continent's development agenda. That's according to Pretoria's ambassador to Vienna, Tebogo Seokolo. Seokolo was appointed earlier this month to chair the strategic multi-lateral body, which has the responsibility to ensure the safe, peaceful use of nuclear technology.
