Students at the University of Pretoria have accused police of targeting their leaders in an attempt to end the FeesMustFall protests. UP student leader Rasethaba Mosibudi was arrested and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate court on Tuesday. The situation remains clam at the university as the police and private security are maintaining a heavy presence on campus where access is under strict control. The Portfolio Committee on Energy has sent senior management of the Department of Energy packing after they failed to present a comprehensive report on the forensic investigation into the loss of R14.5 billion at Petro-SA. In the 2014/15 financial year, Petro-SA had reported a loss of R14.5 billion. This was due in part to the non-performance Project Ikhwezi, a gas-replenishing programme at Mosgas. The department said Minister of Energy Tina Joematt-Pettersson is required by law to make recommendations on the report before it is made public. Members were unhappy with the explanation and insisted the department go away and come back next month with the required report. Eleven people have been arrested at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Westville campus and eight of them are not students. Police and the university security personnel raided the student residence blocks to conduct search and seizure operations. Yesterday students stoned passing cars and also threw petrol bombs at the police. Nonkululeko Hlophe reports.

The Durban High court has ruled in favour of Vela Shembe as the leader of the Nazareth Baptist Church, also known as Shembe. Vela suceeds the late leader Vimbeni Shembe. The court ruled that Vimbeni nominated his cousin as his successor to lead the congregation, and not his son, Mduduzi. The court has also ruled that the eBuhleni faction must pay all legal costs for the court action. Ebuhleni has filed an application for leave to appeal the matter. Former SARS commissioners who were charged with fraud wants their charges reviewed. Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashula have requested the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to review their charges. Their charges, along with those against the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, relate to a pension pay out that Pillay received when he resigned from SARS.
