Public Protector Thuli Madonsela is weighing her legal options after President Jacob Zuma applied for an interdict in a last-minute attempt to stop her from releasing a preliminary report on alleged state capture. Madonsela is due to hold a news conference today (14/10/16) on the day that she steps down. Zuma wants to stop Madonsela from releasing details that the Gupta family allegedly used their access to him to influence government policy and the appointment of ministers and directors of state-owned enterprises. The EFF has vowed to intensify it's campaign for free education and against the Gupta family and president Jacob Zuma. The party has announced plans to support the ongoing students protests - insisting that the country has the means to make free education possible. The EFF has also once again called for the immediate resignation of president Zuma and says that prosecution boss Shaun Abrahams must go with him. Classes have been suspended at the Westville campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Police have used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse protesting students. Meanwhile, only four out of eleven people being prosecuted after the Fees Must Fall protests in Pietermaritzburg, have been granted bail. The situation remains tense at the University of KwaZulu-Natal as some students continue boycotting classes while non-striking students try by all means to attend their classes. There has been another fire at one of the residences on the Pietermaritzburg campus. Parts of the council chamber offices were torched and a small portion of the television room at the Malherbe residence was also set alight. Both fires were extinguished by the university security staff. Barely a day after serving fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan , National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams says he won't hesitate to review the charges should Gorhan himself make an application review for such determination. Fending off the barrage of questions from members of the portfolio committee on justice in parliament, Abrahams was at pain telling MPs that it was not his decision to lay charges against Gordhan and two former South African Revenue Services officials Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashule. A man who is alleged to have shot dead three people at Pretoria East security estate has killed himself. The man was found dead in his Meadows estate in Moreleta Park, Pretoria after he held hostage two police officers and three security guards. The motive for his shooting spree is still unknown.
