The Commission investigating the commercialisation of religion has found that many South African churches are selling religion to desperate and vulnerable people. It says the majority of churches do not abide by the country's laws. The Commission has recommended that all religious institutions be registered and affiliated to some regulatory body to be established immediately. Senior journalist Thabile Mbhele reports

Outgoing Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela and President Jacob Zuma appear to be locked in a standoff over the probe into allegations of State Capture by the Gupta family. Madonsela is probing the alleged involvement of the family in the dismissal and appointment of cabinet ministers and State Owned Enterprise Board of directors. The family is suspected of using its proximity to the president to improperly influence the awarding of state contracts. However both the Presidency and the Office of the Public Protector don't seem to be able to agree on how the investigation should proceed. Our Political Correspondent Ntebo Mokobo has more.

The news of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan recieving summons to appear in court rattled the markets. The rand weakened by three percent to the US Dollar, with the financial stocks the hardest hit following the news. Gordhan was about to deliver a keynote speech at a conference of the Gauteng provincial government in Johannesburg when he learned that a summons had been delivered at his house today. Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is not above the law and he ought to humble himself by facing all allegations against him in the courts of law. This is the majority view held by political parties represented in parliament. Their mixed reactions were responses to what they described as shocking charges against Gordhan. While they sympathised and have confident on the innocence of the minister, members of parliament were very smart at making sure that the rule of law cannot be surpassed by emotional expressions. It is not clear whether academic programme will resume at Wits university this morning. This after clashes broke out between police and the students at the main campus in Braamfontein before setting alight a bus on the streets of Braamfontein. Police are yet to give the exact number of students arrested. However the students have vowed to shut down the university until their demand for free higher education is met. Protest action has entered it's fourth week now and there's been minimal teaching and learning. University management took a decision over the weekend to resume with the academic programme yesterday (monday). Students attacked police and private security with rocks and stones. The council of Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape has taken a decision to re-open the university on Wednesday to continue with the academic programme. The special council meeting was convened to discuss all problems besieging the university including the demands of the students. President Jacob Zuma arrives in Kenya on Monday for a three-day state visit. During his visit, Zuma will hold talks with Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta on a wide range of bilateral issues and also attend a joint South Africa - Kenya business summit.
