Chaos broke out at Wits University's main campus where students clashed with the police and private security yesterday. Protesting students disrupted the academic programme and vowed to shut down the university until their demand for free quality higher education is met. By evening the protest had spilled over into surrounding areas outside the Braamfontein campus. A group of protesters pelted a sporting goods store with rocks. A private funeral service, to be attended by family and close friends, will be held this week for the woman who accused President Jacob Zuma of rape in 2005. Fezekile Ntsukela Kuzwayo, commonly known as Khwezi, died at a Johannesburg hospital on Saturday. She had been living with HIV/Aids for 26 years. Thousands of students of the Mahikeng Campus of the North West University started trickling in, in preparation for the re-opening of the new semester today*.The campus was closed a month ago following fees related protests. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump clashed in a heated second U.S. Presidential debate that began be delving into the remarks made by the Republican nominee on an audio video tape about groping women. Trump responded by accusing Clinton of smearing women who HAVE accused her husband, former President Bill Clinton of sexual abuse or harassment. The Higher Education Department has established a task team that will develop policy on how tertiary institutions should deal with issues of rape and other gender based violence within its institutions. The 16-member team will comprise students, university staff, police and justice officials.
