A newly-built police station has become a white elephant in Moeka in the Moretele Municipality near Pretoria. Residents say the new police station has become a haven for criminals who are vandalising it. Construction started in 2013 and halted in early 2014 due to an alleged problem with contractors. Residents say before the construction was halted the police station only needed some finishing touches. Zanele Sibiya visited the area and spoke to residents....

Another ANC NEC member and member of Parliament, Mathole Motshekga, has spoken out against the party's president Jacob Zuma, calling for him to resign following the release of the State of Capture Report. Motshekga is the latest to break ranks after ANC Chief Whip in parliament Jackson Mthembu called for the entire party's NEC to step down. According to media reports, Motshekga maintained that the ANC cannot and should not accept collective responsibility for the actions of President Zuma, and those who are implicated in the Report. The Public Protector's report on alleged state capture was released late last evening - finding a wide range of issues of concern and saying in its remedial action that President Jacob Zuma should appoint a judicial commission of inquiry within 30 days. The report goes on to say that the commission's findings should be presented to President Jacob Zuma within six months of the establishment of the commission. It also directs Treasury to provide adequate funding to the commission. The Public Protector's report notes among other things - its concern that Minister Des Van Rooyen can be placed at the Gupta family home in Saxonwold on seven occasions - including the day he was announced as the new Finance Minister in December 2015.
